RED OAK -- Before the season began, veteran head coach Grover Battle wasn’t sure what to think of his 2009-10 edition of the Northern Nash Lady Knights.
Certainly, the Lady Knights had some talent, albeit inexperienced. But it’s hard to imagine any team with just one senior being competitive, especially against the tough schedule that Northern Nash undertakes every year.

RED OAK -- With Northern Nash hosting the annual Nash County Christmas Tournament this year, tourney chairman Dan Richwalski likely wouldn’t have minded having a Rocky Mount-Northern Nash meeting in the championship games of the event.
Well, that’s what he got for Tuesday’s finals as both Rocky Mount and Northern Nash saw their teams prevail in Monday’s semifinals -- including the boys’ contests.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School dominated a prep wrestling match against Tarboro on Dec. 16, winning by a convincing 78-6 margin.
Tarboro’s only match victory came via forfeit in the 103-pound weight class.

Pairings finalized for The Brittany Soccer Tourney
WILSON -- Nash County’s four public high schools will compete in The Brittany For The Girls VI Soccer Tournament.
The annual event will be held March 19-20 at the J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex in Wilson County.
On March 20, Nash Central, Southern Nash and Northern Nash will all play at 8:30 a.m.
Central will tangle with Smithfield-Selma on Field One, while Southern Nash will meet Halifax Academy on Field Five.
