802.Spring Hope resident voices concerns of safety and health issues from burned home
A mess left at a home in Spring Hope has become bothersome for one resident.William Capps lives next door to a home on 503 North Walnut Street. He said the home has tarps covering areas of its roof damaged by a fire. Over time, the tarps have collected sitting water and are "blowing all over the place." Capps said the property has trash thrown all over the place as well.

The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, October 14, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 139.61 for Extra Large, 133.47 for Large, 100.39 for Medium, and 75.00 for Small eggs.

805.City of Rocky Mount hires Reidsville Police Chief
City Manager Rochelle Small-Toney has completed a national search for the Rocky Mount Police Department Chief of Police vacancy. Robert Hassell, who currently serves as Chief of Police for the city of Reidsville, North Carolina, has received a conditional offer to become Rocky Mount Police Chief beginning May 3, 2021. Hassell's appointment is pending the outcome of a background investigation.

Sunday School began at 9:45 with Chris Matchem welcoming everyone and making the announcements. There was a call to worship video followed by singing “Come, Now Is the Time to Worship.” Communion meditation and prayers at the table were given by Elder, Kenneth Massengale. After the communion service and the giving of tithes and offerings, the morning message was brought to us by Chris Matchem. Our minister Daniel West was on vacation.

NASHVILLE - After repeat requests from the public to have a chance to do a walk-through inspection of the Fellowship Church, Nashville town officials extended a community invitation to do just that, arranging three visit times in two-hour intervals on Thursday, June 27.Eleven members of the public and two media people attended in total, with most of the visitors coming to look over the property, located at 969 Old White Oak Road, in the evening session between 6 and 9 p.m.

ROCKY MOUNT -- A Maroon Storm took over the Big East Conference volleyball proceedings during the 2021 campaign.That's when Nash Central High School broke on to the stage of the upper-echelon portion of the Big East and eventually qualified for the Class 2-A State Playoffs.Central, coached by Heather Thompson, won its first nine matches and was in contention for the Big East regular season crown heading into the final week of the schedule.

815.Cone wins District Three primary
While many in the nation stayed up late on Tuesday night to check out the presidential victories, many residents in Southern Nash County were focused on who had won the Nash County Commissioner District Three seat during primary elections. The answer was local insurance agent Dan Cone. Cone defeated J.P. Barnes in the Republican race for the seat by just over 200 votes, according to preliminary results.

817.Alumni presents 11 young men into leadership program
The Rocky Mount Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity presented 11 young men April 26 in its 2014-15 Beautillion Militaire Leadership Training Program.This year's class was made up of high school juniors and seniors from Nash and Wake counties. The biennial program works to prepare the participants, called "Beau," academically and financially for college through a series of activities and development workshops. These included a recent visit to the N.C General Assembly in Raleigh, where participants watched the N.C. House and N.C. Senate in session and were welcomed by state legislators who are members of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Nash Community College recognized 27 employees from Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant for completion of Business Leadership and Practical Supply Chain Management certificates. The College worked with the company to provide specialized online instruction tailored to meet industry needs. As a result, two cohorts were formed and employees earned the two certificates, each consisting of 15-16 college credit hours that can be applied to further educational opportunities.

NASH COUNTY -- Wilson Fike went undefeated in regular season and tournament girls soccer action in the Big East Conference this spring -- so it was understandable when Fike's dominance was represented by a top-heavy list on the All-League Team for the 2015 campaign.Fike was able to garner three of the top five honors on the elite list, including Defensive Player of the Year Mary Love Taylor and Coach of the Year Toni Varacchi.Fike's Katie Stokely shared Offensive Player of the Year honors with Northern Nash's Rebekah Beal and Wilson Hunt's Eynde Frazier.

NASHVILLE — It’s official. Nashville’s Kiwanis Club is back in business. The club celebrated its charter night last week, after a year of recruiting members. The event was sponsored by the Wake Forest and Crabtree Brier Creek Kiwanis Clubs. Nashville’s Kiwanis Club disbanded in 2003 after many of its members moved away. In 2006, Nashville citizens got together to try and get the club back going. Last Tuesday night, members joined together with other area clubs to celebrate its charter night.

RED OAK -- Four years later, history repeated itself at Northern Nash High School.When they were eighth-graders at Red Oak Middle, Susie Sykes and Chad Haggerty were selected as that school's Athletes of the Year.Both went to NNHS together and closed out their careers recently by being saluted as the Knights' Athletes of the Year.The talented Sykes was a three-sport standout at NN who excelled in basketball, volleyball and softball. A local Highway Patrolman was one of 19 Department of Public Safety employees recognized at a ceremony last week. Trooper Cleveland Atkinson, Jr. was recognized with a Badge of Excellence award for public service and volunteerism at a ceremony held on November 15 at the State Bureau of Investigation's auditorium. Atkinston was one of 19 recognized with various Badge of Excellence Awards. Atkinson works at the Highway Patrol Office in Raleigh.

It was great to see a lot of you at the fish fry on Friday night. Thank you all for your participation. We had a good crowd and fellowship. Sunday morning our minister Daniel West brought us another inspirational sermon on “The reason for the season Shine Jesus Shine.” It was preceded by a beautiful song from our choir, “Let There be Peace on Earth.” Flowers were beautiful poinsettias which had been given by Mary Lee and James “Stump” Bass. They always decorate in December with these flowers which continue to be used through the Christmas season. On Tuesday night, the 1st of December, several ladies and gentlemen met and decorated the church which included putting up the lovely Christmas tree.
