703.Chief Warrant Officer 5 Small speaks at Galatia AME Church
Galatia AME Church recognized its veterans during a special service recently.Around 20 veterans were in attendance at the service and were given an opportunity to introduce themselves and share their branch and years of service. Veterans in attendance were from all across Nash County from Whitakers to Bailey, Rocky Mount and Wilson County. Branches of service included Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy.

ROANOKE RAPIDS -- A rare early-week matchup was in store last Tuesday as Nash Rec traveled to Roanoke Valley in a rescheduled Nash-Halifax Swim League meet.The event was supposed to take place earlier in the campaign but was postponed due to poor weather. More than 30 unique startups and microbusinesses participated in the small business-oriented event, displaying their unique offerings to the more than one hundred audience members in attendance.The competition portion of the event, hosted by Pastor James Gailliard, Word Tabernacle Church, and judged by "shark" experts Sterrett Lloyd, Draka Elevator, Joan Siefert Rose, Council for Entrepreneurial Development, Mark Little, NC Growth, and Michael Goodmon, Capitol Broadcasting Company was lively.

Nash County youth fared well in the 81st annual Eastern Carolina 4-H Meat Animal Show and Sale, which was held last Tuesday and Wednesday. Nash youth dominated the steer competition, which was held on Wednesday, April 18. Caleb LaHay's steer was named Grand Champion in the steer competition, with Lexie Lucas and her steer being named Reserve Champion.

Spring Hope Commissioners voted Monday to apply for grant monies from the NC Small Town Economic Prosperity Program (NC STEP) in order to aid in the town’s economic recovery. The STEP program is in its third round of funding and plans to award grants to 10 small towns in NC in the coming year. Grant awards could be up to $125,000 and require only a 5% cash match from the town.
