4978.Memorial Day -- a time to consider
I'm guessing very few people have ever heard of Albert Woolson. He was the last Civil War veteran (Union) to pass away -- at age 109 in 1956. The last Confederate widow, Maudie Hopkins, passed away in 2009 at age 93. Let it sink in for a minute that her husband served in a war that ended in 1865.

4979.Is the game really that super? A close examination
These are the times that try men's souls -- at least men who aren't obsessed with professional football.Because there is a two-week break between the conference finals and the Super Bowl, the Sports Industrial Complex runs out of interesting stories in about three hours. By the end of the week, I suspect they'll be talking about what breed of dog the players would be if they could become a dog.The good thing for me is that I don't have live television any longer and removed a major sports station from my radio presets.

4984.Don't worry, summer is still planning on arriving
I've only made it to the local strawberry farm two times this year. And Sunday, the young lady at the order window told me this was the last week for berries.I looked at my watch, not to check the time, but the date. It seems like we had a longer season this year, but it could just be me. I put the container of berries in the car and Kristi and I took the first pull off of our milkshakes. Mine was strawberry with no sugar added, so it didn't actually count as me eating, it was just a serving of fruit.
