2703.The money is there already, it’s just misspent
Upset over low teacher pay? Under-funded school systems? The cost of health insurance for “everyone”? Money for police and fire departments? Roads? There is more than enough money to fix everything that needs fixing and give every taxpayer in America plenty of money for a tax holiday.

2705.Committee called out for legality of private meeting
MOMEYER - After holding their last public meeting at an undisclosed location Jan. 8, apparently to avoid being videotaped for the town's You Tube channel, members of the Momeyer Outreach Committee are being called out for that action as illegal. Will Funderburg, Mayor, brought up the topic at the Jan. 12 town council meeting, stating that "there seems to be confusion" about the committee's status as a public body, which means that their meetings have to be public.

I'm not sure where you enjoy spending your vacation time. Lot's of people love the beach! I've always loved the beach and since I was a small boy, I can recall enjoying Myrtle Beach. I have very fond memories of family vacations at The Dayton House Resorts, although it was not called a resort when I was a young boy. On of my fondest memories from my time at the beach was playing in the Atlantic Ocean, jumping waves, and collecting sea shells.

2713.Nashville is worth preserving!
I joined others to speak to the Nashville Town Council members Tuesday night while knowing there wasn't one thing, as a municipality, they could do at this point - in a legal action - to stop the destruction of 111 S. Hilliard Street. This 1903 home is slated to be "razed" as stated by Nashville Methodist Church. However, each of them can step away from their post as a town council member, acting as a citizen of this town to express their thoughts to the church leadership asking for reconsideration.

I've only made it to the local strawberry farm two times this year. And Sunday, the young lady at the order window told me this was the last week for berries.I looked at my watch, not to check the time, but the date. It seems like we had a longer season this year, but it could just be me. I put the container of berries in the car and Kristi and I took the first pull off of our milkshakes. Mine was strawberry with no sugar added, so it didn't actually count as me eating, it was just a serving of fruit.

He knew I’d been looking one for a while, and thought I might want to look in Rocky Mount. In just a couple of years, Kent and his brother Lowell had been through two goals. 2741.Local, consistent news coverage keeps governments on their toes
I've been asked by a few folks in the past if The Graphic might consider adding the Rocky Mount City Council to its coverage. My quick answer has always been no - unless the management and leadership of Rocky Mount begins to affect people in The Graphic's coverage area - meaning water and utilities. Nashville relies on Rocky Mount for its water. Some of the rural areas in our coverage area also rely on Rocky Mount for water, natural gas or electricity. In the past, our coverage has usually been limited to those two things in unison with covering the Nashville Town Council and county government. It's more than obvious that the leadership of Rocky Mount has (forgive the pun) been on somewhat rocky ground for some time now.

2767.Truck buying seemed like a cross-cultural experience
Last week, I wrote about how Old Unreliable finally bit the dust, taking a deer and my credit card balance with it.While that old Dodge served my dad and his pugs for a generation, it was not so kind to us. If a truck could smoke two packs of Marlboros a day, lay out of work twice a week and get in the occasional fight at the Waffle House, it would have been this one.The truck was ruled totaled and I told my youngest son, the primary driver of the vehicle, that we'd try to take our time and find the right vehicle.

2771.Saying our good-byes to a Boddie Street crown
I am one who doesn't deal well with good-byes, especially when watching a historic building crumbling down by the claws of an excavator. The buildings on South Boddie Street (106 and 112) have long sat empty with little maintenance. The building in the center of the two, which is much younger, was purchased by Adam Williams several years ago. Adam brought breath back into the building which housed Nashville's Parks and Recreation for a few years. The older structures were eventually condemned due the owner not complying to bring the structures back up to a safe level. I don't know how he did it, but Adam found a way to purchase the two structures when others had tried to buy them in the past.

Books typically range in price from 50 cents to $3. It's not like we have a shortage of reading material at our house. When you live with a 6-year-old, a 2-year-old and a 10-month old, you never really have a dull moment. I admit there are times when a little boredom could be a good thing. But, at least there is plenty of inspiration for columns. Unfortunately, I am unable to relate the best and most interesting stuff due to this being a family newspaper.

In fact, it even had a spiritual truth with it. Don't tell him, but we both learned something that night.

Robbie decorated the house two weeks ago for Christmas. She brought down the box with the Fisher Price Little People Nativity Set. It is great for the children because they love playing with all the characters and animals while also learning about the birth of Christ. As she was pulling out all the pieces, she realized one was missing - baby Jesus! Apparently, one of the grandchildren put it somewhere during Christmas last year. It reminded me of an account of the Christmas Story as told through the eyes of a six year-old little Russian boy named Misha.
