The Sanctuary flower arrangement Sunday was presented to glorify God by Kathy and Aubrey Farmer in loving honor of the faithful saints at Peachtree Baptist Church and those who have preceded them who honored their Savior and church by faithful service. Happy birthday Daddy, in memory of Leslie Knight.

Red Oak Baptist Church had a Refugee Simulation on Wednesday, November 28 in the Family Life Center. The evening began with a soup and sandwich supper prior to the simulation. The simulation began with all in attendance going through "Processing" where all their belongings were taken from them and bagged according to their new identity number. Then group leaders selected at random members, or "refugees" to be in their group as they went through the simulation.

Houston selected for ECU

GREENVILLE -- Mike Houston, who guided James Madison to successive NCAA FCS Championship Game appearances and one national title, has been named head football coach at East Carolina University according to an announcement Monday by ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert.
The Franklin native owns an 80-25 record and a combined six conference championships in eight seasons as a head coach.

Area stars hit the pool

ROCKY MOUNT -- Officially, the area swim meets at Harrison Family YMCA are overseen by the Big East Conference, with the opportunity for schools from other leagues to compete -- including Nash Central.
Each Big East squad participates in all the meets, which also feature non-conference clubs Nash Central, Wilson Beddingfield, SouthWest Edgecombe and Tarboro.

Wood heater fire damages structure on Rackley Road

Shortly after 2 p.m. on November 23, 2018, Nash County 911 center received a call for a large frame workshop on fire in the back of a home on the 2500 block of Rackley Road in the Momeyer section of Nash County. Fire departments were dispatched from Station 17 Momeyer Fire-Rescue, Station, 10 Coopers Fire & Rescue Department, and Station 6 from Spring Hope Fire Company.

Long-time Castalia Town Clerk retires
Long-time Castalia Town Clerk retires

The Castalia community celebrated long-time clerk Angelean Elliott last Saturday at a special retirement party.
Elliott, 59, will retire November 30 with 30 years and eight months of service to the Town of Castalia.
Elliott was just a few years out of college when she first started as the town's clerk. She said she saw the job opening and thought it would be a good opportunity to get some experience under her belt.

Nashville man sentenced for drug charge

A Nashville man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for distribution of cocaine.
United States District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Michael Lee Drake 52, last Wednesday to 120 months imprisonment followed by eight years of supervised release.

"A Christmas Carol" begins Friday night

The 17th production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" will feature a brand new cast, new director and will focus on the theme of home and family.
Jim Lee wrote this year's script and music and will also play Scrooge and for the first time, direct the show.
Lee is no stranger to the production, which has been directed by Jim Singleton for the show's duration at Nash Arts. Lee has performed in the production and written a previous script and music for the show.
