Fireman Raul Medinafigueroa assigned to USS West Virginia hails from Bailey and is a 2014 graduate of Southern Nash High School, takes on the task to execute one of the Defense Department's most important mission of strategic deterrence.

Bailey, Whitakers receive grants

The State Water Infrastructure Authority has approved two grant projects impacting Nash County. Whitakers will receive $1,789,530 for sewer system rehabilitation. The source of the funds is a Community Development Block Grant - Infrastructure. Bailey will receive $150,000 through an Asset Inventory and Assessment Grant.

Kristen Tedford, principal of Swift Creek Elementary, recently completed the Distinguished Leadership Program (DLP), a year‐long leadership development program for practicing school principals designed and provided by the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principal's Association and sponsored by the American Express Foundation through the North Carolina Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD.)

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Briauna J. McKnight-Sykes graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

It has been a source of comfort to many about what the Bible says about heaven. It is the account of a fatal automobile accident that took the life of Don Piper.

It may have rained this past weekend but it did not dampen the spirit of the campers and staff attending the 23rd Annual North Roanoke Baptist Association Mother/Daughter Overnight Camp on April 12-13, 2019 at Camp Mundo Vista. Campers enjoyed the camp theme, "Sonrise Farm", which was emphasized through all activities during the weekend. The theme verse was Matthew 9:37," Then Jesus said to his disciple, 'The harvest is huge.

Big East hosts golf tournament

ROCKY MOUNT -- High School golfers from around the Class 3-A Big East Conference met at Rocky Mount's Belmont Lake Golf Club on Monday to close out conference play for the 2019 season in the annual league championship match.
Despite a lackluster performance earning them a fourth-place finish in the championship match, the Wilson-Fike Golden Demons, led by Head Coach Glenn Jones, were able to capture another Big East crown, something that has essentially become to be expected by the Demons as of late.

NCWC defeated on Senior Day

ROCKY MOUNT -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team dropped its Senior Day game 9-7 to conference leader Piedmont College (Ga.) at home on Sunday afternoon to drop the rain-shortened series.
After Piedmont got out to a quick 1-0 lead in the second, the Bishops came back to score 6 runs in the bottom of the third.

Gold Leaf Tourney scheduled

WILSON -- The Sixth Annual Golden Leaf Invitational Baseball Tournament will begin this weekend and will feature Nash Central, Northern Nash, Faith Christian, Rocky Mount Academy and Rocky Mount High School.
Games will be played at historic Fleming Stadium along with Wilson Hunt, Wilson Fike and Farmville Central High Schools.

Carolina Mudcats drop diamond game

ZEBULON -- Rob Henry drove in a run with a double in the fourth and Payton Henry stretched his hitting streak to eight straight games, but the Carolina Mudcats fell 5-1 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium in a Class A Carolina League baseball showdown.
Wilmington's Seuly Matias homered twice in the game for the Blue Rocks as they finished out a series win, by taking three of four, in the four-game set.
