STAUNTON, VA. -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College softball team completed its regular season two Saturdays ago by capturing the USA South East Div. Regular Season Championship by sweeping Mary Baldwin University (VA) on the road.
The Bishops used two 7-run innings to roll in game one 18-3 and then hung on to defeat the Squirrels 8-6 in game two.

Women in Action of Red Oak Baptist Church met at the church on Tuesday, April 16. They enjoyed a sandwich supper. Maureen Williams, Audrey Pearce, and Marion Faulkner had parts in the program. Members brought items to donate to the homeless shelter in Rocky Mount for their mission action project. Their next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:30 pm at the church.

Registration for both sports will run through May 31.

Nash Central continues its crazy soccer season

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School's crazy girls soccer season got even crazier last Thursday during an Eastern Plains Conference home match against the Farmville Central Lady Jaguars.
Central, under veteran head coach Ryan Ruiz, rolled to the Eastern Plains Conference Championship last spring, but lost stars such as Anna Shaye Thompson and Linzi Long to graduation.

Edmundson, a senior defensive back/wide receiver, has accepted an offer to join the gridiron program at nearby Louisburg College.
Edmundson finalized his decision as part of a signing ceremony last Wednesday at the SNHS Media Center.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School found itself in the rare position of defending a league boys tennis champion this spring.
The Bulldogs roared to success back in 2018 in their initial season in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference.
And with a solid core of returnees, including No. 1 singles star Cameron Johnson, the Bulldogs were expected to make another run at the EPC crown this time around.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Southern Nash's boys and Nash Central's girls came up with team victories Monday at the annual Scott Jones Memorial Track and Field Classic.
The event was hosted by Nash Central at The Dawg Pound, and the Lady Bulldogs did not disappoint by racking up 136 points to easily outdistance the 87 tallies put up by runner-up Wilson Hunt at the 10-school meet.

But that circumstance is more common this spring as rain has moved schedules and forced already-started contests to be temporarily washed away.
Such was the case of last week's Big East Conference diamond meeting between Southern Nash and Franklinton at the FHS Baseball Field.
