NASHVILLE - An infant has died and its four-year old sibling is hospitalized due to ingesting Oxycodone which was allegedly left on the bed within reach of the children.
Nashville's Police Department responded to 220 Richardson Court at approximately 9:36 p.m. on September 6, 2021 and assisted the Nashville Fire Department and Nash County Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Nash UNC Health Carehas opened a food pantry for patients who struggle with food insecurity at home.
"Twenty-three percent of the population in our service area is food insecure - that means 23% of our neighbors have limited access to food for themselves or their families," said Kirby Slade, community development director at Nash UNC Health Care. "That's 7% higher than the state average, and thus is a key social determinant of health we should work to address in our community."

Nash County Register of Deeds Anne Melvin passed away last Thursday, September 2, after declining health.
Melvin, 57, had served as Register of Deeds since 2011. She replaced the late Barbara Sasser who had served as Register of Deeds for 19 years prior.
Nash County Commissioners took time to pause during Tuesday's meeting to reflect on Melvin's service to Nash County.
Commissioners and staff did not realize the severity of her health issues noting she was a very quiet, humble person and a true servant.

Nashville's Town Council moved forward with approval of the grant programs Tuesday night.
The grants, the Downtown Investment Grant and a Facade Grant, have both been discussed for several months by members of the Downtown Strong Advisory Board.

George's BBQ Sauce, made right here in Nashville, has been voted into the top 15 semi-finalists of this year's Coolest Thing Made in NC contest.
The contest is spearheaded by the NC Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the state's manufacturing community.
The general public can vote online through September 16 to help push George's BBQ Sauce into the final five which will be announced on September 20. Voting will be offered afterwards to find this year's winner which will be announced on October 1st.

Nash County will soon study redistricting options, if required, of the seven commissioner districts.
All local governments which elect members using districts are required by law to evaluate population changes or inequalities every ten years upon the release of new census numbers.
The last redistricting process was in 2011 due to radical changes in the 2010 census.

On Tuesday Nash County reported 331 new positive cases of COVID-19 over a seven-day period which brings the cumulative total to 13,011. Deaths have increased from 203 to 207 since last Tuesday.
Nash County Health Director Bill Hill reported 32 people in the hospital at UNC Nash with three of those in the ICU and two on ventilators. Hill said of the 32 people hospitalized, 27 were unvaccinated.

Nash UNC Health Care's board of commissioners has voted in support of adding the COVID-19 vaccination to the current list of vaccinations that Nash UNC requires for staff as a condition of employment.
Current vaccinations that are a condition of employment are Influenza (Flu), Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B (Hep B) and Tuberculosis (TB).

The Town of Nashville is hopeful an update to the 10-year Water and Sewer Capital Improvement Plan will help better the chances of receiving grant funding for water and sewer projects.
Town Manager Randy Lansing requested approval for the 10-year Water and Sewer Capital Improvement Plan on Tuesday night at the board's regular meeting.

Petty Officer 1st Class Chevaris Jennett joined the Navy 19 years ago. Today, Jennett serves as an electrician's mate.
