Each year community leaders in the Twin Counties come together at the Annual Steak & Burger Dinner to raise money for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region. The fundraising event is designed to honor their youth and provide an opportunity for donors to experience first-hand the impact the Club is making on the lives of young people in the Twin Counties. This year, the Boys & Girls Club of the Tar River Region will be holding its 27th Annual Steak & Burger Fundraising Event, virtually.

On Monday, August 16, the Voice of Nashville held its monthly meeting at the Town Council Chambers. Our guest for the night was Chief Deputy Brandon Medina of the Nash County Sheriff's Office (NCSO). The meeting was a great learning experience for the group. Chief Medina explained the mission of the Sheriff's Office which is to ensure the safety of the citizens of Nash County.

Tobey Worthington (left), Mu Chapter member, Past State Vice President, and District I Director of NC Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) Society International presented an interesting program at a recent Mu Chapter meeting. Her topic was, "A Leadership Opportunity for Members." She was introduced by Elaine Christianson (right), a Co-President of Mu Chapter.

A last-minute plea deal canceled what was anticipated to be a lengthy trial in the murder case against Rexford Lynn Keel.
Keel was accused of murdering his wife, Diana Alejandra Keel in March 2019 and disposing of her body in Edgecombe County.
Keel pled no contest on Monday, October 4 to second degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. He was sentenced to a maximum of 41 years in prison for both charges as a result of the plea arrangement.

Beginning Friday, the Pumpkin Picasso painting contest begins which is hosted by Nashville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources. The contest is open to ages five and older and also local businesses. You may paint, decorate or bedazzle your pumpkin (no carving) then drop it off at the recreation center located 108 S. Boddie Street. Pumpkins will remain on display at the center. One submission per person is allowed.
