Nash County expands COVID-19 testing

Nash County has reopened drive-thru testing due to the increased surge of new positive cases of Coronavirus.
Testing is available at the Nash County Health Department on Barnes Street in Nashville. Appointments are required however staff are typically able to offer same day or next day appointments.

Duck Thru gas station to open in Spring Hope

Developers will be creating a sign for a gas station slated to open in Spring Hope in the near future.
Buddy Laws of RedCo Properties said Duck Thru gas station will be adjacent to the town's upcoming Bojangles. The sign will stand about 125 square feet high.
The plan is for the sign to have a side-by-side orientation view. It will feature both Duck Thru gas station and Bojangles and will be illuminated.

Nashville teen dies from gun accident

A 2021 Nash Central High School graduate passed away Monday due to an accidental firearm discharge.
The Nashville Police Department responded to a call for service at Wheeless Drive Monday at approximately 1:12 pm for a reported deceased male.
Upon arrival, Nashville Fire Department and Nash County Emergency Services provided assistance in medical treatment however, 18 year old, Derrick Macklin Jr. was already deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Bailey man sentenced 151 months  to federal prison for drug distribution
Bailey man sentenced 151 months to federal prison for drug distribution

A Bailey man who was charged with drug offenses in 2019 was sentenced on Wednesday to 151 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the distribution of crack cocaine in the Nash and Wilson County area.
Costa Rontrell Pender was identified in 2019 as the primary suspect in the investigation.

Rocky Mount man receives 10-year sentence for federal firearms violation

A Rocky Mount man was sentenced to 120 months in prison for stealing ammunition and firearms in Elm City, North Carolina. Cecil Terrance Reams, 48, entered his guilty plea on June 8, 2021.
According to court documents and other information presented in court, Reams, his co-defendant, Brandon Shane Reams, 42, and another male subject, broke into a residence in Elm City, North Carolina, in the early morning hours of August 29, 2018.

Last week, I read a news story about a man who swallowed a cellphone and had to have it surgically removed.
I'll be the first to admit that when I see social media posts featuring eastern North Carolina barbecue or various types of ice cream, I might be drawn closer to my screen, but I have yet to lick or swallow my phone.

Dr. L.A. High was our family doctor throughout my childhood and teen years up until his retirement.
I recall him visiting our home on a few occasions as a house call for medical care.

Sunday Pastor Gene presented a Patriot's Day Service honoring the memory of all those lost and injured on September 11, 2001. During the September 11 attacks in 2001, 2,977 people were killed, 19 hijackers committed murder-suicide, and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 at the Pentagon.

The Red Oak Classic Tractor and Car Show at Ennis Park had a great weekend! Participants enjoyed the car and tractor show, power parade, food, music, vendors, exhibits, and more while also enjoying the beautiful weather. The event also included a special memorial for the 20th anniversary for September 11, 2001. The Red Oak Area Historic Preservation Society had a very successful event and proceeds will support their continued work to rehabilitate the historic farm life school teacherage.

Peacemakers will host its Picnic for Peacemakers fundraiser at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Englewood Baptist Church.

North Carolina's egg prices were lower on extra large and large, steady on the balance when compared to last week. Supplies of extra large and medium were fairly light, while large were mostly moderate to meet a fairly good demand. The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, September 09, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 169.72 for Extra Large, 163.57 for Large, 98.53 for Medium, and 82.00 for Small eggs.

BUNN -- Coming into Tuesday's Big East Conference volleyball showdown at Bunn, Nash Central had yet to lose a match -- and had dropped only two sets -- during its prolific start to the 2021 season.
But things were about to get interesting for the Lady Bulldogs beginning Tuesday as they were set to begin a 48-hour gauntlet featuring key Big East matches against long-time Franklin County powers Bunn and Louisburg.

STANHOPE -- The Southern Nash Firebirds improved to 3-0 with a 51-26 win at home last Friday over the South Granville Vikings, who dropped to 1-3.
It appeared the Birds would start really well with a 66-yard return for Leo Jones to start the game and give Southern Nash the ball inside the Vikings' 10-yard line, but a fumble on third down and goal ended those hopes.
