Area churches form partnership for Ukrainian relief project

Lakeside Baptist Church, Rocky Mount is partnering with Košice Baptist Church in Slovakia to provide relief services to Ukrainian refugees. The partnership plan, developed and led by Dr. Jody Wright, Lakeside senior minister, links support from the Rocky Mount area with relief efforts underway at the Košice Church located approximately 80 miles from the border with Ukraine.

ROCKY MOUNT -- A latecomer to the sport, Maniyah Jones is making up for lost time during her track and field career.
After a strong senior season at Nash Central, Jones signed a letter-of-intent last Thursday to join the program at Barton College in Wilson.
Jones excelled in sprints and relays this spring for the Bulldogs and was part of a relay contingent on the regional level.

RED OAK -- Indiya Spooner and Ashton Rhodes took home the top honors at the recent Northern Nash Athletic Awards Ceremony.
Spooner, a senior was tabbed as NN's Girls Athlete of the Year after a career that featured excellence in girls basketball and track and field. Spooner has signed a letter-of-intent to join the women's hoops program at Barton College in nearby Wilson.

A Nash Central High School alum, Downey set the previous school record in the pole vault for the Bulldogs -- a mark that stood until eclipsed this spring by Colin Johnson.

ZEBULON - Eduardo Garcia and Hedbert Perez hit solo home runs over the first and second, but the Myrtle Beach Pelicans scored 10 runs over the first three innings and got a 4-for-6, two homer and eight RBI day from Kevin Alcantara while defeating the Carolina Mudcats 15-6 on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

GREENVILLE -- No. 9-seed Texas scored nine runs in the first two innings and claimed the 2022 Greenville Baseball Super Regional over No. 8 National Seed East Carolina Monday morning at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.
With their win, the Longhorns advance to the 38th College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

When we lived in Georgia, I attended a men's breakfast at my church. I really wanted to sleep in that morning, but something told me to get up and go.
It never registered with me that it was the Spirit that was telling me to get out of bed, but I realized afterwards that God had something to say that morning that he wanted me to hear.
