RED OAK -- Getting to the Elite Eight of the Class 3-A Boys Basketball State Playoffs has been both an accomplishment and a bugaboo for the Northern Nash Fighting Knights going back to 2017.

BUNN -- Star-studded excellence is once again expected this season in the Big East Conference boys scene -- and that was on display Monday when the league opened its 2023 schedule with a nine-hole practice match at The River Golf Course in Franklin County.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central went through a rare rebuilding phase on the baseball field with a young club that would eventually post an 8-16 record under the direction of veteran head coach Willie Langley.
The nucleus of that club is returning this spring as the Bulldogs will look to make an impact in the Big East Conference diamond standings.

ZEBULON -- The Carolina Mudcats have introduced the all-new "Mudcats Mug Club" ticket package featuring three collectible mugs, game tickets and drink vouchers to each Thursday night home game at Five County Stadium.
The Mudcats Mug Club ticket plan is available to fans ages 21 and over.

A Battleboro man was arrested last week and charged with a narcotics, firearm and probation violation.
Nash County Narcotics Detectives assisted NC Probation and Parole on February 22, 2023, with a compliance search of the residence of Jermyus Silver.
Silver has been the subject of an ongoing drug investigation since October 2022.

Destiny Smith, a junior at the Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School, was nominated to serve as a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders on the University of Massachusetts Lowell Campus June 21-23.
The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to become physicians or go into medical research fields.
