As my husband and I drove home from Ocean City, Maryland late Saturday night, I wondered just how I would come in Monday and get back to work. And now that Monday is here, I’m still wondering. I guess vacations are like that.

WAKE FOREST - For the second straight season, Rocky Mount High’s sole football scrimmage will come at the 2nd Annual Friday Night Pigskin Kickoff on Friday, Aug. 10 at Wake Forest-Rolesville High’s spacious Trentini Stadium.
ROCKY MOUNT – Nash Health Care Systems announced plans to open the Nash Wound Care Center. Located on the campus of Nash Health Care Systems, directly behind Nash General Hospital at the intersection of US HWY 64 East and I-95, the center is scheduled to open on July 31st and will specialize in the treatment of non-healing wounds, a significant and often debilitating problem which is becoming more prevalent due in part to the aging of America’s population and recent growth trends in diabetes incidence.

Nash Arts will feature the work of an 11-year-old local artist in his first solo exhibition July 23-31.
Keshun Richardson, a rising sixth grader at Red Oak Middle School, will showcase his pencil drawings through Tuesday, July 31. Keshun is the youngest artist to present a solo exhibit in Nash County.

Lindy Short Medlin Brewer of Rocky Mount has been included in the 2006 edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
Rocky Mount — Elizabeth Bailey, a Rocky Mount Academy senior, has received two prestigious scholarships to Wake Forest University. Bailey has won a Poteat Scholarship and a Davis Scholarship to the private, coeducational university located in Winston-Salem.

NASHVILLE -- In a duel between a pair of strong Nash County squads, Westridge defeated Birchwood 452-318 during last Thursday’s Nash-Rocky Mount Swim League matchup at the Birchwood Pool.
Westridge will host Nash Rec this Thursday in a key N-RMSL contest, while Birchwood will be on the road at Roanoke Valley.

MOUNT OLIVE -- Garrett Davis continued his mastery over Nash County’s batters Monday night as Wayne County Post 11 downed Nash County Post 58 5-1 in the opening round of the American Legion Area 1 East playoffs at Mount Olive College’s Scarborough Field.
ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Nash Rec remained undefeated in Nash-Rocky Mount Swim League action with a 476-333 road victory last Thursday evening against Roanoke Valley.
Nash Rec will tangle with Westridge on each of the next two Thursdays to prepare for the annual NRMSL Championships in August.
ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School will be hosting a Football Team Camp for anyone interested in joining the Bulldogs’ roster this fall.
The event will start July 23 at 1 p.m. and run through the afternoon of July 25. Cost is $25 per player.
JACKSON, TENN. -- Ryan Bear singled home Grant Psomas with two outs in the top of the 12th inning to send Carolina to its fourth straight win, defeating West Tenn 5-4 on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park in a Class AA Southern League diamond matchup.

GREENSBORO -- Nash County will have four representatives playing in today’s 58th Annual N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Football Game. The contest will be played at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium. Game time is 8 p.m.
The Nash Community College (NCC) Foundation recently announced that the Merritt and Mary Frances Matthews Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established at the college by the Matthews’ daughters, Marilee Morgan of Zebulon, and Sylvia Matthews of Nashville.
