I don't know if it is because I got a late start on my early shopping, but it seems like Christmas came in on two wheels this year.
As I get older, I like to get my shopping down early and cruise into the Christmas stretch run. It can be challenging navigating crowds if you're not a crowd person.
I was never much for crowds, but I sort of peaked that time in the hospital when I tore my gown open in sort of a biblical, shredded loincloth kind of situation. But that's a story for another day.

Some of our subscribers may receive this edition of The Nashville Graphic early due to our early deadline schedule - and some may receive as normal on Thursday. Delivery will depend on the postal service in each area.
Most likely by the time the majority of you have a few moments to sit down to read this edition, the chaos of the season will be cooling down.

MOMEYER - Momeyer Ruritans celebrated 60 years as a club Dec. 16 with a night of recognitions, steak dinners and a 'dirty santa' game where door prizes were drawn only to be quickly 'stolen.'
The club, established in 1964 and currently numbering 53 members, has increased since last year; the annual Christmas meeting hosted 90 for dinner at the Ruritan Club, 4812-4972 Momeyer Way.

ROCKY MOUNT - The 17th Daddy-Daughter Dance "Princess Ball", a special evening hosted by Nash County Parks and Recreation for girls aged 3-12 years old to 'dance the night away' with their daddies or father figures, is coming up Jan. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nash Community College's Brown Auditorium. Registration is open now, but closes Jan. 4. Registration costs $35 per "couple," with $5 for each additional daughter, should a Dad want to bring more than one. Dress can be casual to formal.

We've all heard the story so much that a few of us could probably quote the verses. So why talk about the wise men when Christmas has come and gone?
Even though their visit with the Christ child is traditionally taught as a part of the Christmas Story, Bible scholars believe that these men from the east may not have seen Jesus until two years after his birth. In other words, their visit doesn't have to be associated just with Christmas.
While we often concentrate on the gifts these men brought to honor Jesus, we often overlook what else we can learn from their visit.

A virgin named Mary was betrothed to a man named Joseph. The angel Gabriel announced,
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." (Luke 1:31-33)
Have you ever received a birth announcement? They all have one thing in common. Birth announcements are sent out after the child is born.

NASHVILLE - A 24-year-old Nashville man has been arrested on drug and weapons charges after an investigation by the Nash County Sheriffs Office, with assistance from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office.
Travis Wayne Davis, of 2829 Othas Field Drive, Nashville, was investigated for the sale and delivery of narcotics out of 5603 Sandy Road, Nashville, after numerous citizen complains were received about "narcotics sales, overdoses and acts of gun violence being committed by Davis," according to a Dec. 21 NCSO press release.

ROCKY MOUNT - Roy Cooper, North Carolina's 75th Governor, came home to say his official goodbyes, delivering his Farewell Address Dec. 18 to a packed Brown Auditorium at Nash Community College.
Christopher Edmonston of White Memorial Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, Cooper's pastor for the past 13 years and originally from Tarboro, gave the invocation, praising the Governor, "a son of our state," for his "wisdom, integrity and intelligence," and prayed that future leaders learn from Cooper's experience and that his family's days ahead "be filled with hope and happiness."

LYNCHBURG, VA. -- What a way to go out.
That's the main theme of Quinton Cooley's senior season as a member of the Liberty University football squad as the former Southern Nash legend once again excelled as the Flames' star running back during the 2024 campaign.
Coming off a monstrous junior year, Cooley kept the pace this fall as the rushed for 1,254 yards (19th in the nation) and 13 touchdowns (26th in the nation) while helping the Flames post a strong 8-3 overall record.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Building from the ground up is the philosophy as Nash Central continues its boys basketball rebuilding work into the 2024-25 campaign under the direction of head coach BT Thomas.
The Bulldogs are still in the process of building themselves back toward an elite program after a few down seasons -- and signs are there that the program is headed down the right path.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Another round of the Big East Conference swim schedule took place last Thursday at the Harrison Family YMCA, and the Northern Nash Knights appear on the verge of an early TKO in their quest to repeat as the league's boys team champions.
Northern was dominant once again, piling up 128 points to outdistance runner-up Nash Central, which closed with 83 tallies.

CHAPEL HILL -- Here are the pairings for this weekend's North Carolina High School Athletic Association state football championship contests:

NASHVILLE, TN - Christmas movies can be part of the fun during the holiday season from classics to rom-coms, with one of newest, "Get Him Back For Christmas" just released on Great American Family Dec. 14, with re-air dates on Dec. 19 and 21. This one, though, has a local connection: Megan Wordsworth of Nash County is its Associate Producer.
Wordsworth, formerly of Rocky Mount and with relatives there, in Nashville and Wilson, now lives in "the other" Nashville and works for Good For You Entertainment, one of several companies who backed the movie along with ViaMar, Roberts Media and Great American Family.

A local Nashville ministry, "Helping Hands Outreach Ministry," continues its Christmas tradition of supplying local kids with bike and toys. The ministry was organized by Anne Richardson and her family in 2015. This year, they served lunches an all-time high of 400 people. Toys were contributed by Dollar General and collected by Brenda Richardson throughout the year, particularly in post-Christmas sales.
