The Nashville Chamber of Commerce began a new tradition this year of presenting quarterly awards to members based on their contributions to the community and other criteria.
A suggestion to add a little more flavor to the quarterly award by Chamber Board Member Diane Taylor was quickly approved by fellow members - branding the presentation to sync with the four seasons of the year.

The annual meeting of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation was held December 8-10th at the Sheraton Four Seasons and Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. Nash County Farm Bureau President Greg Bunn was recognized among his peers at the Presidents' and Agents' Luncheon. Farm Bureau President Shawn Harding presented each winning County President with a limited edition case knife.

Nash Community College has announced the selection of 11 students to the prestigious 2025 UNC Health Nash Nurse Scholars Program. This year's cohort of 29 students marks the largest group to date and highlights the expanded reach of the program, which now includes partnerships with NCC, Edgecombe Community College, Wilson Community College and Halifax Community College.

The six days between Christmas Day and New Year's Day is a time when we look back at the year and reflect upon our successes and our failures. We look at the good times as well as the bad times. Most of us even make resolutions for the new year that we rarely keep. Yet, it's important that we bring closure to the past year and make sure that we've learned and grown from whatever came our way. Indeed, real growth can come this time of the year.

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, the events and decisions of the past year weigh heavily on our minds. In this moment of reflection and anticipation, we can turn to the powerful message found in Joshua 1:1-9, a passage that offers both encouragement and guidance.
The book of Joshua begins with a significant transition. Moses, the revered leader who brought the Israelites out of Egypt, has passed away. God speaks directly to Joshua, the new leader, reminding him of the responsibility before him.

Spring registration ends Jan. 7 at Nash Community College for the 2025 semester, with classes starting January 8, and additional "Flex Start" courses available beginning January 23 and March 10.
Flex Start courses are designed for students who are unable to begin the semester on the traditional start date. These courses allow students to start their classes later in the semester, giving them a flexible, alternative option for completing their studies without missing out on the educational opportunities they need.

ROCKY MOUNT - Roy Cooper, North Carolina's 75th Governor, came home to say his official goodbyes, delivering his Farewell Address Dec. 18 to a packed Brown Auditorium at Nash Community College.
Christopher Edmonston of White Memorial Presbyterian Church of Raleigh, Cooper's pastor for the past 13 years and originally from Tarboro, gave the invocation, praising the Governor, "a son of our state," for his "wisdom, integrity and intelligence," and prayed that future leaders learn from Cooper's experience and that his family's days ahead "be filled with hope and happiness."

4-H families came together recently to pack over 200 bags of food and winter items for local youth and those displaced in Western North Carolina.
A majority of the food bags will go to students at Bailey Elementary School.
Molly LaHay, a parent volunteer for 4-H and leader of the Feathers and Fur 4-H Club, headed up the project. LaHay said she discovered the need in the Southern end of the county while talking with Sheila Horan, a social worker for the school system.

NASHVILLE - Ella Smith, a resident of Nashville's Autumn Care, is one of those women who doesn't get ruffled easily, taking each day as it comes and not making a fuss. Nonetheless, her family and the management at Autumn Care have been planning to do a bit of fussing over Ella - because she's about to turn 100 years old. You'd never know it, though, to look at her or talk with her: Ella easily could pass for thirty years younger.

NASHVILLE - The lineup for activities is complete for the New Years Eve Egg Drop 2025, the second annual event by Braswell Family Farms.
The three-hour, family-friendly event is set to run Dec. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nashville Junction, 723 S. Barnes Street, with fireworks and the Egg Drop at 7. The grounds will open at 3:30 p.m.

NASHVILLE - Nash county employees who leave their jobs will now be able to return and retain credit for cumulative years of service, as long as they are re-hired within five years of separation.
The amended Longevity Pay Policy to Recognize Employee Loyalty was one part of a policy proposal made at the Nov. 4 Board of Commissioners' meeting by Stacie Shatzer, county manager, who said the idea was developed by management team members with the goal of strengthening Nash County as an employer of choice.
