Morgan to serve as Chair of Nash Board of Commissioners
Morgan
Nash County Commissioners have a new chairman, as commissioners voted 4-3 to put Commissioner Billy Morgan in the top seat.

Commissioner Robbie Davis has served as chairman of the board since February 2009, when he took over the seat after Claude Mayor announced his resignation from the board. Davis was the first Republican to serve as chairman of the board, as Mayo, a Democrat, had served as chair since 1990.

County Attorney Vince Durham proceeded over the election of the new chairman. Commissioner Danny Tyson nominated Davis to serve as chair and Commissioner Fred Belfield put a nomination for Morgan. Votes were cast down party lines, with Commissioners Tyson, Outlaw and Davis, all Republicans, voting for Davis and Commissioners Belfield, Mary Wells, Lou Richardson and Morgan, all Democrats voting for Morgan.

Morgan had previously served as vice chairman. On Monday during the board’s regular meeting, commissioners voted 4-3 for Belfield to serve as vice chair. Outlaw nominated Davis to serve as vice chair but Belfield won with a 4-3 vote, again down party lines.

Morgan thanked the board for choosing him for the position and reminded the board that they served the people of Nash County.
