MAXINE BISSETTE WARREN (Aug. 10, 1928 – Oct. 21, 2006)
SPRING HOPE – Maxine Bissette Warren passed away on Oct. 21, 2006. She was born on Aug. 10, 1928 in Spring Hope to Finley Daniel Bissette and Navada Wood Bissette.

She was class valedictorian at Spring Hope High School and graduated from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. After working as a chemist for three years, she enrolled in the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and there received her Master's degree.

Mrs. Warren's service to developmentally disabled children and their families began in 1967 when she served as Chief Social Worker and later as Director of Children's Services at Edgecombe-Nash Mental Health Center. Mrs. Warren and her staff delivered quality comprehensive services for children of Nash and Edgecombe counties for many years.

She responded to a new opportunity to help children when appointed Director of the Rocky Mount Developmental Evaluation Center in 1975. Mrs. Warren and a loyal and highly competent staff made the Rocky Mount Developmental Evaluation Center one of the best in the state in its delivery of thorough and sophisticated services to children.

Nominated by her special staff and friends, Mrs. Warren received the Leo M. Croghan Conference Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.

She is survived by Dr. Julian M. Warren; son, Bradley Bissette Warren of Raleigh; son, David Marion Warren of Rocky Mount; son, Scott Wood Warren and wife Cameron Y. Warren of Raleigh; granddaughters Ashley Davis Warren and Anne Cameron Warren; and grandsons McLean Marion Warren and Alexander Wood Warren.

The family receiveed friends at Wheeler-Woodlief Funeral Home in Rocky Mount on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6-7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Wheeler-Woodlief Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Tom Bodkin of Hayes Barton Baptist Church will preside, assisted by the Rev. Allen C. Allen.

Memorials may be sent to Spring Hope First Baptist Church, where Mrs. Warren worshipped and served as a Deacon. The address for the church is P.O. Box 177, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
