NASHVILLE- Barbara Gurganus Burgess, age 81, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Born in Nash County on April 1, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Alex Gurganus and Linda Whitley Gurganus. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James "Tip" Alton Burgess; her sisters, Shirley Gurganus Braswell, and Rose Marie Edwards; and her brothers, Cecil Gurganus, Milton "Buster" Gurganus, McDonald Gurganus, and Robert Earl Gurganus.
Barbara is survived by her son, James "Tip" Alton Burgess, II, of Greenville; her step-daughters, Patricia B. Belton, of Wilmington, Grey B. Christian, of Greensboro, and Robin B. Congleton and husband, Ed, of Greenville; two grandchildren; her sister, Ethel Gurganus Farmer; and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Pineview Cemetery. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside.
