MARY JOHNSON WHITLEY ELLIOTT

NASHVILLE, NC -- Mary Johnson Whitley Elliott, 94, passed away at home April 28, 2021. She was born February 22, 1927 to the late Charlie Andrew and Hilda Hollingsworth Johnson. She was a 1945 graduate of Benvenue High School. She was a charter member of Sunset Avenue Baptist Church formally Johnson's Tabernacle. She loved the Lord and enjoyed having women's prayer and bible study groups at home. She retired from Abbott Laboratory.

She is preceded in death by her three brothers, a sister, a great-grandchild, and husband from her second marriage, Odus Elliott. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Charlie Whitley (Donna), A.B. Whitley III, Kevin Whitley (Jenny); two daughters, Mary Grace Daughtridge (Tommy), and Sylvia Batchelor-Stancil (Jerry). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Leigh Ann Whitley (Bryan Nicely), Battle Whitley (Judy), Steven Whitley (Jamison), Blake Whitley (Lauren), Amy Contreras (Hernan), and Trey Daughtridge; thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the father of her children, Pete Whitley.

She will be remembered for her love of church and family with which she blessed us all. Her sense of humor and wit always brightened the day of many a neighbor and friend.

To celebrate the life of "Granny" a graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations to Community Hospice, 2479 Hurt Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
