DORIS JERNIGAN WOOTEN

ROCKY MOUNT - Doris Jernigan Wooten, age 85, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021. Born in Wayne County on June 26, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Lester Paul Jernigan, Sr. and Thelma Elizabeth Jernigan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Essex Maddry Wooten; her brother, Lester Paul Jernigan, Jr.; and her grandson, Phillip Pugh.

She is survived by her son, David B. Wooten (Maribeth) of Surfside Beach; her daughters, Mary Gwendolyn "Gwen" Wooten of Rocky Mount and Susan W. Hopper (Thomas) of Rochester, NH; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Jernigan Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
