Big East Golfers In Full Swing

ROCKY MOUNT -- Southern Nash senior veteran Elisabeth Collie is considered the favorite to claim the Big East Conference Girls Golf Individual Championship this fall -- and for good reason.

Collie has been a four-year standout for the Ladybirds and is coming off a second-place overall finish last season.

But the SN star has plenty of company near the top of the league standings through two matches, as the conference seems to be much-improved from top to bottom.

During the latest Big East event, which was held Monday on the front nine at Northgreen Golf Club, Collie fired a 47 to share medalist honors with Wilson Hunt's Connor Worley.

Collie, who also stars in softball for Southern Nash, is still rounding her game into form after a busy summer of work and other responsibilities -- along with a student trip to Europe.

Collie now has a 91 total, which leaves her three strokes ahead of Hunt's duo of Ashton Barnes and Worley.

Southern Nash's Taylor Hall tied for the third spot Monday with a 49 -- the same score she shot during the conference's first meet at Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson.

Other Southern Nash scorers were Samantha Puckett (53), Sydney Finn (59) and Madelyn Lockhart (68).

Northern Nash has one golfer this year -- sophomore returnee Cydney Richardson. She shot a 62 Monday afternoon.

The Ladybirds, coached by veteran skipper Todd Brewer, took second place in the team standings with 149 strokes -- four behind Wilson Hunt.

Hunt has claimed the team crown in each of the first two Big East nine-hole matches.

The next conference showdown will be next Monday, with Southern Nash hosting at The River Golf and Country Club, located between Spring Hope and Bunn in Franklin County.

Action will begin at 2 p.m.

Monday's top scores at Northgreen GC were as follows:
