Drug bust nets two arrests

A narcotics investigation led to two men being charged with trafficking heroin.

Members of the Nash County Sheriff's Office Platoon B and the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force were following up on a narcotics investigation on Saturday, August 31 at 2700 N Wesleyan Boulevard, Rocky Mount.

K-9 Dako was deployed and alerted to the positive odor of narcotics at a storage unit. A search warrant was prepared and executed on the unit, which lead to the seizure of 216 bricks of heroin, an AR-15 pistol and multiple bags containing marijuana residue. Two suspects were located through video surveillance footage.

With assistance from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office, DEA and members of the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force, Jaheed Maleek Labega, 23 of Rocky Mount, was located and a search of his residence was conducted.

During the search, deputies located three pounds of marijuana, additional heroin as well as 6.5 grams of cocaine, over $2,500 in US Currency and a handgun.

On September 4, members of the Tar River Regional Drug Task Force and the Wilson Police Department located a second suspect, Joshua Alkeem Lynch, 29, of Rocky Mount, at a residence in Wilson. Lynch provided deputies consent to search his residence and during the search, a half a pound of marijuana, packaging equipment, scales and a firearm were found.

Labega was charged with one count of trafficking heroin, two counts of maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance, once count of possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, one count of one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Labega received a $250,000 secured bond.

Lynch charged with one count of trafficking heroin, one count of maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance, once count of one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Lynch received a $75,000 secured bond.
