Spring Hope PD investigate arson

Spring Hope Police are investigating an arson at the Spring Hope Community Park.

Police and fire personnel responded to a fire in the bathroom facilities at the Community Park on McLean Street around 12:15 p.m.

The fire was reportedly started in a trash can in the women's restroom, Thomas Gillespie, Recreation Director for Nash County, told Nash County Commissioners on Monday.

Gillespie said in addition, someone attempted to start a fire in the men's restroom.

The fires were extinguished, however both restrooms received smoke damage and the women's restroom received some other minor damages.

An investigation into the fires determined they were set intentionally. Witnesses reported seeing two juveniles, both black males, walking away from the facilities just prior to smoke being smelled in the air. One of the juveniles was reportedly wearing a red shirt.

Anyone with additional information on the fires can call Detective Bell at the Spring Hope Police Department at 883-0908.
