MATTHEW STRICKLAND SR.

NASHVILLE - Matthew Strickland Sr., son of the late Haywood and Josephine Strickland was born on September 15, 1926 in Robertsonville. He passed away January 23, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Lille Strickland; one sister, Mary Alice Gay; a daughter, Carolyn Mitchell; and a son, Matthew Strickland Jr.
He is survived by one sister, Odessa Kaye Morris of Nashville; eight daughters, Evelyn Carter (Alford) of Omaha, NE, Elizabeth Strickland of Clayton, Betty Strickland of Princeville, Brenda Tillman (Allan) of Zebulon, Lillie Avent, Theresa Marshall (Brian) of Rocky Mount, Dorothy Lee, and Marilyn Edmonds (Carlos) of Nashville; two sons, James Strickland (Katherine) of Chesapeake, VA and Donald Ray Strickland (Joann) of Charlotte; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services were held January 29 at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount. burial was at New St. John Cemetery, Red Oak.
