Vernon Donahue (Don) Lucas

Vernon Donahue (Don) Lucas, 83, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018. He was born in Nash County to the late James Elijah Lucas and Irene Freeman Lucas. He graduation from Nashville High School and Chowan College.

Lucas honorably served his country in the US Army in Germany. He retired with 25 years of service with Gray and Creech in Raleigh, and after retirement established CoBe Graphic Supply. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Knightdale where he served in various capacities. He will be remembered for his involvement in Little League Sports at the Knightdale Parks and Recreation Department, and devotion to his family and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends, Monday, March 19, 2018, 6:00 to 8:00 pm at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545, and other times at the home.

Funeral service 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2018, Bethlehem Baptist Church, 8400 Poole Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

Burial: New Knightdale Baptist Church Cemetery, Mailman Road, Knightdale, NC 27545, with military honors.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Dot) Forsythe Lucas; sons, Dal Freeman Lucas of Greenville and Paul Dane Lucas of Knightdale; granddaughter, Annie Frances Lucas; and sister, Tillie Bell of Nashville. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles, Alvin, and Wayne Lucas; and his sisters, Almeta Hilliard, Elsie McLawhorn, and Virginia Rawls.
