Marie Layton Chadwick

Marie Layton Chadwick, age 90, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Born in Franklin County on October 7, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Layton and Bessie Abernathy Layton. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert "Bob" Winfield Chadwick; her siblings, Eleanor Edwards, Lucy Cannady, Julius "Billy" Layton, Ronald Layton, and Ernestine "Poppy" Layton; sisters-in-laws, Agnes Layton and Barbara Layton; and brothers-in-laws, Russell Nelms, David Edwards, and Jones Cannady.

She is survived by her son, Robert Chadwick and his wife, Rebecca, of Rocky Mount; and two daughters, Anita Bissette and her husband, Wayne, of Wilmington, and Janet Chadwick of Durham; four grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; brothers, Ernest "Buck" Layton and his wife, Clara, and James "Jimmy" Layton and his wife, Irene; her sisters, Mavis Nelms, Sue Leonard and her husband, Darrel, and Annette Roberson and her husband, Larry; a sister-in-law, Jennie Layton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount with the Pastor Jim Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 PM to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Chadwick Scholarship, 100 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
