Town of Castalia sets rules, adopts ordinance for park use

At its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, the town board of Castalia adopted an ordinance related to the park and set dates for future meeting.

The ordinace details the rules of the park, such as hours of operation, that children should not be left unattended, that no smoking, animals, or glass containers will be allowed, etc. It also mentioned that the picnic shelter can be rented, and applications are available at the town hall. The next Park and Fourth of July meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14th at 7 pm in the town hall.

The board also discussed the town's trash collection options. The town currently has a contract with Waste Industries, and a representative stopped by the town hall Tuesday to talk about renewal, which is why the business was not listed on the meeting's agenda. Waste Industries would like an answer by April 1st. The contract would be for three years, and cost $23.85 per customer, a slight increase of their collection fee compared to the current contract. In June of 2015, the board heard a presentation by A Plus Disposal. According to a phone conversation between A Plus and the mayor, the collection fee would be only $16 per person. A meeting with the A Plus Disposal representative has been scheduled for Monday, March 13 at 6 pm in the town hall, so that the board can ask questions and possible negotiate terms.

The next regular meeting of the Castalia town board is scheduled for April 4 at 6 pm in the town hall.
