Lois Wester Murray

AVENTON - Lois Wester Murray, age 97, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Born in Johnston County, NC on December 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hayward Wester and Maudie Strickland Wester. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jettie Kensey Murray; infant daughter, Hilda Susan Murray; grandson, Myles Richardson; two brothers and two sisters.

Lois was a Class of 1937 Graduate of Red Oak High School and she also attended Parkview Nursing School. In addition to raising a family of five children, she supported her husband in farming, working in a dress factory and retired from Abbott Laboratories as a Quality Assurance employee. She loved to cook, especially collards. She was a great vegetable and flower gardener. Lois was an avid NC State fan and lover of all sports especially the Spurs and Atlanta Braves. She served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member at Fishing Creek Baptist Church that she attended over 74 years. Lois devoted her life to serving God and others, always offering a welcoming smile.

Lois leaves behind to cherish her memory, children, Sandra Richardson and husband, Jerry; of Midlothian, VA; Kensey Murray and wife, Sue, of Red Oak; Lensey Murray and wife, Nancy, of Aventon; Brenda Moore and husband, Bobby, of Hilliardston; and Marcia Davis and husband, Billy, of Red Oak. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rhonda Moore; Paige Richardson; Todd Murray and wife, Rebecca; Shane Murray; Hope Pierce and husband, William; Kimberly Hoff and husband, Kevin; Byron Moore and wife, Kim; Brandon Moore and wife, Tamara; Jo Ellen Reams and husband, Joe; and Travis Davis; great-grandchildren, Tyler Moore; Ryan Moore; Wyatt Moore; Peyton Richardson; Anna Brooks Murray; Tristan Murray; Ian Pierce; Ellie Moore; Sam Moore; Ava Moore; Elias Moore; Ezra Moore; Justin Reams and wife, Brandi; Jessi Reams; Caleb Davis; and Hannah Davis; great great-granddaughter, Bralee Reams; sister, Patricia Garris; brother-in-law, Joseph Murray and wife, Carolyn; and special friends, Earnestine Durham and Danielle Moore.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Fishing Creek Baptist Church, 15150 Avent Road, Whitakers. Burial will follow at Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Fishing Creek Baptist Church, 574 Harrison Road, Nashville, NC 27856 or flowers are welcome.
