Marjorie Mauney Smith

Marjorie Mauney Smith, age 98, of Dorches, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Born in Nash County on August 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin C. Mauney and Emma Brasswell Mauney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Bruce Smith; two daughters, Gail Smith Adams, and Donna Smith Stanley

Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a lady of great faith, she loved her church family at the Dortches Baptist Church. In her quiet time she loved reading and knitting. Marjorie was very proud of the growth of her families very own Smith's Red and White started by her husband in 1954. Marjorie's summer highlight was always loving her vegetable garden.

Marjorie leaves behind to cherish her memory, son, S. Bruce Smith, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Dortches, NC; grandchildren, Derrick Smith and his wife, Melissa, Nicole Smith, David Adams and his wife, Cyndie, Smith Adams and his wife, Susan, Mauney Stanley and his wife, Jalyn, Megan Kesler and her husband, Jimmy; great grandchildren, Henry and Owen Smith, Gavin Adams, Tommy and Cooper Adams, Hollyn and Kolt Stanley, Lily James and Griffin Kesler. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her step-grandchildren, Bryan Franklin, Jarrett Franklin and Sam Adams.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Marjorie's caregivers. Eula Carliles and Mary Jo Moss, their love and kindness will always be remembered.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 2:30 PM at the Dortches Baptist Church with Pastor Phillip Barton officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 12:30 PM in the "Family Life Center" at the Dortches Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Marjorie's name to Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
