Take ownership in your problems

A friend of mine is a cancer survivor. She's had a tough time and her recovery has been anything but easy. In fact, I hadn't seen her in several years and would not have recognized her if we had met by chance. But it wasn't due to a loss of weight or hair. She just didn't look the same. Her mother attributes the difference in her appearance to a combination of the side effects of chemotherapy and stress.
As we caught up with each other, I realized that cancer had changed a lot more than her appearance.

Daniel 1:8 CSB
Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king's food or with the wine he drank. So he asked permission from the chief eunuch not to defile himself.
We all make choices. Sometimes we think through these choices before we give our "final answer."

Is God Dead? - Adolpf Hitler and Mother Teresa

It is said that "the moral law is not always the standard by which we treat others, but it is nearly always the standard by which we expect others to treat us."
Human rights are not grounded in opinion; they are grounded in a common higher authority. That is how organizations like Amnesty International or the International Justice Mission function; they rely upon a common good that is grounded in a Higher Authority, whether they realize it or admit it. This is closely related to the argument from evil, where the atheist claims that the existence of evil in the world proves that there is no God.

Back to school hits a little differently this time around

For the first time since 2004, Kristi and I will not be sending a young, pliable mind off to a K-12 classroom. It's an odd feeling and I'm not sure how I feel about this new life stage.
Optimism is in the air, sort of like the first week of baseball season, when everyone feels like they have a chance to win the World Series. But then the reality sets in that they are the Colorado Rockies and after three weeks it's still hot and there are 165 more days left in the season and victory seems long out of reach.

Celebrating 130 years of community journalism

The Nashville Graphic's 130th year of publishing was honored by both the Town of Nashville and Nash County with presentations of proclamations to the newspaper.
Being an old school newspaper gal, I'm honestly not used to seeing local governments honor newspapers. Actually, back in the day, newspaper editors and publishers would think something was wrong if a government official thanked them.
