The Town of Nashville has made an offer to purchase the building that once housed Acme Cleaners.
Council members voted last month to offer $410,000 to purchase the building to house its parks, recreation and cultural resources department. The offer was accepted but is contingent, however, on an environmental study.

A shooting at a local hangout spot in rural Nash County last Friday morning left both the victim and suspect in critical condition.
Maj. Eddie Moore of the Nash County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a call around 12:39 a.m. July 29 regarding shots fired at Trip City Lounge located on 4609 Red Road in Nashville.

The Castalia Farmers Market is closing indefinitely, three months before the end of the season.
Commissioner Brian Hinkle, who manages the farmers market, said it has been a struggle to keep it open all year.
He said he is closing the market on August 13 due to lack of foot traffic and depleting sales, which is partially as a result of more markets opening in surrounding areas.

Nash County 4-H held a Painting Outdoor Fun Camp on July 28 at the Nash County Agriculture Center where children expressed themselves creatively through making art pieces. Children used acrylic paint to decorate items such as windchimes, bird feeders, rocks, gourds, and clay pots.

Nash County residents can offer feedback in-person on the county's updated land use plan before it is considered for adoption.
Nash County Planning and Inspections Department Director Adam Tyson said the current land use plan was adopted in June 2006, which is over 16 years ago.
"The recommended practice is to update the plan every five to 10 years, depending upon how rapidly a community is experiencing growth and change," he said.

Nash County Public Schools are gearing up for a new school year.
The Board of Education met on Monday to approve and discuss several items prior to the start of the school year. Among the contracts approved were school nutrition bids and contracts for Communities in Schools and Kelly Services.

Nashville's first female council member, Rebecca "Becky" Jones Bass, passed away Friday, July 29 at the age of 83.
Bass served the town from 1975 to 1987. She was honored by the Town of Nashville in 2018 for her service not only as the first woman elected to the board but also a part of the transition of the board from a Commissioner to a Council-Manager form of government in 1978.

Children took a glimpse at what being a part of law enforcement is like during 4-H Criminal Justice Camp.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office and Nash County 4-H partner up every year to hold the week long camp. This year, the criminal justice camp took place from July 25 through 29.

Kendall Denton receives a scholarship from Oak Level Ruritan Club.

The Oak Level Ruritan Club issued two scholarships to two incoming college freshmen in memory of a club member who passed away.
The nonprofit civic group typically gives a scholarship to high school graduates who are either local or related to club members.
They are selected in terms of merit.

The Nash County Board of Education has selected Zaques (Zack) Demetrius Gray to fill the seat for District 8.
The seat was left vacant in March after the resignation of Board Member Reginald Silver. Silver resigned from the seat to pursue a seat on the Nash County Board of Commissioner.

A pair of codefendants who assaulted and injured a Bailey auto mechanic last year have been found guilty by a Nash County jury.
The jury sentenced Davis Tervell Graham, 28, and Michael Brandon Jones, also 28, to a maximum of seven years in prison for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, larceny of a firearm, and attempted larceny.

The car of a Middlesex police officer was vandalized last Tuesday which prompted the town's police chief to post a response on social media.
Middlesex Police Department Chief Mike Collins said the officer was asleep when the incident occurred sometime in the evening on July 26.
Collins said a friend or neighbor of the officer notified the officer about his defaced vehicle.

Thanks to Rescues, many in danger homeless pets made it out of the Nash Shelter. The last column spoke of the 7 dogs dropped off together. Problem is, it overcrowded the Shelter, but those gals are all saved by rescues. Also saved by Rescue was a litter of 5 puppies, a grown cat, a pair of young adult sisters, a mom to puppies and 3 of her puppies (3 of the puppies were adopted).

The community, staff, board members and financial partners of Southside Academy recently joined together at Peacemakers to welcome the new school's first class of scholars and families at the New Family Induction Ceremony and Orientation.
Southside Academy is a new private Christian school located at Peacemakers of Rocky Mount, 2221 W. Raleigh Blvd.

North Carolina's egg prices were lower on extra large and large, higher on medium, and steady on small when compared to last week. Supplies of extra large were moderate, large light, while medium were heavy to meet a moderate demand. The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, July 29, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 349.10 for Extra Large, 343.15 for Large, 223.09 for Medium, and 156.00 for Small eggs.

I do this about once a year. I strike a notion to clean up, declutter, spring clean, straighten up, get organized.
One year, I watched TV where professional organizers came in and transformed people's houses into places so neat, I would have been afraid to walk through.
They made it look easy.

Fantastic Little Paintings by artist, Bob Ross, is set to adorn the walls of The Mims and Gravely Galleries at The Dunn Center in fall 2023. The exhibition will be open to the public with tickets available starting late summer 2023. This will be the first time a Bob Ross exhibit has been to North Carolina and the largest exhibition ever seen under one roof globally.
