NNHS Defeated Versus Jackets

RED OAK -- Spring Break is usually a time when Nash County high school sports team adjourn for a few days to recharge before the rigorous final stretch of a campaign.
But with so few matches scheduled due to COVID-19 concerns -- and so much fundamental learning to be done -- some squads are opting to play during the break, including the Northern Nash girls soccer squad.

A COURT PRESENCE

FRANKLINTON - Northern Nash boasts plenty of veteran talent in boys tennis action this spring -- in both its roster and its coaching staff.
The Fighting Knights have only one underclassmen -- junior Eric Bass at No. 2 Singles -- competing in singles positions. The rest of the squad consists of all seniors, led by No. 1 Singles standout Jay Patel.

SUPERB ENDING

NASH COUNTY -- After being rivals in high school, Nash Central's Montre' Cash and Northern Nash's Raymond 'Goody' Bullock became fast friends and teammate during four illustrious seasons as members of the Averett University men's basketball program in Danville, Va.
Cash and Bullock made a little bit of history along the way, leading the Cougars to the USA South Conference East Division regular season championship in 2019-20.

SN star is tabbed for squad

STANHOPE -- Jermia Walker has been an instant impact performer since she first stepped on to the court for the Southern Nash Ladybirds as a potential-rich freshman.
Now a sophomore, Walker's exploits have been recognized as the SNHS point guard has earned a position on the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association's All-District 3 Squad for the 2021 campaign.

Spartans off to good start

GREENSBORO -- In his first full season as head coach, Billy Godwin has the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans over the .500 overall mark in the always-competitive Southern Conference.
Godwin, a Nash County native who prepped at Northern Nash, has helped the Spartans compile a 14-13 record to go with a 3-6 worksheet in the SoCon.

STANHOPE -- In recent years, one of the most important high school athletic events in the eastern portion of North Carolina has been the football game between the Rocky Mount Gryphons and Southern Nash Firebirds.

Mudcats' tickets are now on sale

ZEBULON - The Carolina Mudcats have announced the much-anticipated news that single-game tickets for the first month of the 2021 season are on sale at carolinamudcats.com, (919) 269-CATS (2287) or the Five County Stadium front office.
Single-game ticket availability for the month of June, and the remainder of the season, will be announced later.
