Michael Strange of Nashville and his mother Lillian Strange traveled from North Carolina to meet Michael\'s son, Palm Beach Police officer Hung "Andrew" Nguyen in Royal Palm Beach.
FROM SAIGON TO PALM BEACH: DNA test leads to a special Dad's day

Andrew Nguyen grew up a "leftover" -- that's what they called kids whose mothers were Vietnamese and whose fathers were American soldiers.
He never thought he'd meet his father. That was a long shot for leftovers.
Andrew was lucky, though. In some ways, his whole life might be considered a miracle.

PEACHTREE COMMUNITY NEWS

A message from Pastor Gene Whitehouse of Peachtree Baptist Church. "Love in the Bible can be directed from person to person or from a person to things. When directed toward things, love means enjoying or taking pleasure in those things. Love towards persons is more complex. Loving persons may mean simply enjoying them and taking pleasure in their personalities, looks, achievements, etc. But there is another aspect of love that is very important in the Bible.

Why does gossip matter so much?

"Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly." (2 Timothy 2:16)
I was in church recently when an old friend of mine came to visit. It was the strangest thing. My wife and I were just talking about him. He was out of work and we felt so sorry for him.

Intersections: God and Life

We've all probably seen a pastor illustrate the concept of repentance during a Sunday morning sermon. He walks across the stage on "the path of sin" and tells us that repenting is not merely stopping as we walk down the path, but turning to walk back in the direction of God. This is absolutely right; repentance involves both turning away from sin and turning back to the Father. However, the illustration fails to provide the posture of our heart as we come back to God.

Luke's Word for the Week

Hi Fellow Followers. Much has changed and tensions have risen to unprecedented levels over the last months. It is an emotionally charged time as we continue to navigate a time that none of us have ever experienced. My heart breaks seeing the hatred, division, and discord that now seems to be the norm in our world. When we yell more than meet together, point the finger more than embrace, and post views more than consider our ways, we must stop and wait on the Lord.

When you don't find a dog, he finds you

It was not a day I was looking forward to, I have to be honest.
Nash County Animal Control was having a rabies shot clinic for $5 last week and that's a deal. This would be the ideal time to take our stray that showed up a few months ago and make him legal.
The only problem was that I figured everyone else in Nash County would probably have the same idea.

There's a legit reason we're a little short on change

The effects of COVID-19 continue to wreak havoc on everyone, and now the shortage of coin circulation seems to be causing panic in some areas and a bit of short-sighted customer service at some big-box stores.
A loyal reader stopped by the office today to show me his receipt from a big box store where he purchased three items and attempted to pay with cash.
