Pictured (Above) Six youth from the Red Oak area will present their artwork at an art show/sale on Sunday, October 18 from 1 until 4 p.m. at the Nashville Exchange. Time to revisit government incentives
Despite their popularity, I’m no fan of Dell Computers. I’m thinking after last week’s news, there may be some folks in North Carolina who feel the same way.
You may remember that five years ago, the Texas-based computer maker played a couple of states against each other, ending up with a sweetheart deal from North Carolina that amounted in $318 million in incentives. More ...

Protect your identity
Placing a security freeze on your credit is the best way I know to protect yourself from identity theft. And under a new state law that started October 1, North Carolinians can get security freezes for free online.
Identity thieves use bits of personal information about you, like your date of birth and your Social Security Number, to try to open new accounts and run up bills in your name. ID thieves can do a lot of damage and cost the average victim around $500, according to the Federal Trade Commission, plus the time it takes to clean up your good name. More ...

Pink and purple, more than just colors
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and it’s an important month to remember because domestic violence happens and it can be happening to someone you know right now.
In college, I had a friend who was in a bad relationship. She wouldn’t leave and I never could understand why.
Eventually, I found out her relationship wasn’t just bad, it was abusive. The two would get in arguments and in the end, my friend would end up with bruises. Jealousy was one of the issues but simple things could trigger the rage. More ...
