The Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (N-RMS) administration presented the board with the proposed 2008-09 current expense and capital outlay budgets at its work session Monday night.
The budget presented reflects increases of 5 percent from Nash (totaling about $20 million) and Edgecombe (totaling about $3 million) counties, as well as a nearly 58 percent increase from the City of Rocky Mount (totaling $676,000).

-The bodies of Leona Johnson and Deborah Scriven are found inside a home at 1247 Compass Creek Drive in Rocky Mount with gunshot wounds. A third victim, Devin S. Criven was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Johnson was a secretary in the Uniforms Operations Division for the City of Rocky Mount Police Department. The incident is still under investigation.

• Nashville’s Town Council repeals sections of the town’s animal ordinance. The ordinance was a replica of the county’s ordinance so the town’s attorney suggested taking out all parts that referenced the county. The remaining ordinances were placed under a separate chapter titled, “Animals.” The issue was brought up during the ongoing legal dispute between the town and Adele Maynard regarding her dogs.
