NASHVILLE - Less than four months after being turned down for conditional rezoning, a planned 122-lot subdivision off Wildlife Road, Castalia, is back for consideration, gathering a split vote of approval Monday, Sept. 15, from the Nash County Planning Board.The Wildlife Road Subdivision, consisting of 151.6 acres of A-1 land, has changed hands since it last came up for county approval in June and is now owned by Little Bear Creek Properties, the former developer.

What a wonderful Sunday at Peachtree Baptist Church. Peachtree celebrated its' 210th Anniversary with a Homecoming and Dinner on the Grounds. There was over a 100 people attending, members, past members and friends. Guest speaker was Dr. Richard Childress, Vice President for Development with The North Carolina Baptist Foundation. His sermon title was, "Get Up, Pick Up, and Go," taken from verses Joshua 1:1-11 and John 5:1-11.

5607.Nashville gets green light for sewer rehab
NASHVILLE - A 2022 state grant to rehabilitate Nashville's 40-year-old sewer outfall line along Stoney Creek will click into place now that project specs have been approved by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. The $85,000 pre-construction planning grant from NCDEQ's Division of Water Infrastructure Division had been awarded for the town to hire a consulting engineering firm to come up with project options, followed by a May 2023 agreement with Mack Gay & Associates to complete the study, which would address the line from Avents Lane on the West to Old Carriage Road on the East along Stoney Creek.

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory paid a visit to Rocky Mount on Tuesday with exciting news for the Twin Counties. Rocky Mount was selected as the location for the Carolina Connector Intermodal Terminal (CCX). The state-of-the-art terminal will be located on the Edgecombe County side of the city. My column last week was not meant to be a news report of any specifics as to what is happening with Nash County and Nash County Arts Center. If you missed last week's edition, this editorial/column focused on the possibility that Nash County is proposing that Nash Arts be placed under its parks and recreation department. I couldn't offer specific details since the idea has never once popped up in a public meeting. I actually found out merely by accident there was such an idea being tossed around. And yes, I did verify such a plan was being proposed by Nash County to Nash Arts before launching an editorial regarding the issue.

5650.Nashville tables purchase of church property
"We're really chewing on this to make sure we do the right thing," Brenda Brown, Nashville Mayor, said about the prospect of purchasing the Fellowship Church at 969 Old White Oak Road as a new town hall and parks and rec location. Five-hundred thousand dollars has already been put in the FY 2025 budget as a one-third payment of an accepted purchase contract, although the town is still in its extended "due diligence" period, which expires July 22.

Last week a good friend, and parent of an Englewood Elementary student, notified me that the AIG students from Englewood Elementary were going to tour the Nash County Courthouse. I figured the tour would make for a good photo opportunity and I would slip across the street and take a quick picture of students admiring the restored footprints of President Harry S. Truman. I was pleasantly surprised that quite a bit more took place!

In its January meeting, the state Board of Education approved allowing retesting results of students for ABCs Performance Composite and Annual Yearly Performance (AYP) status calculations. “This will give a clearer picture of where the schools stand,” board member Franklin Lamm told The Graphic. “Before, retests could be used to promote a student but could not be used to help the schools. Nashville's Town Council delayed making a decision on two separate rezoning requests that would pave the way for additional housing in the eastern part of town.Public hearings were held on the requests last week, with separate hearings held for the Planning Board and Town Council due to COVID-19 restrictions. Council met on Tuesday night for their regular monthly meeting and unanimously voted to table both rezoning requests until July 1, when the council will meet again.
