DETENTION OFFICER TRAINING GRADS

Students from Nash County, Franklin County, Vance County, Warrenton and Johnston County Sheriff's Offices recently completed Detention Officer training at Nash Community College. The certification includes 179 hours of instruction designed to train qualified participants to function as officers in detention facilities. The course is governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs' and North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commissions.

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jhaqez L. Langley graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

I am a product of a blended family. In other words, as a child I lived under the same roof with a parent and a stepparent, both of whom were rearing children of their own.
Now, I am now the head of a blended family. And while my whole perspective about it has changed, one thing hasn't: Harmony in a blended family is often difficult to sustain.

Word for the Week

One of my favorite parables, one that we are likely all familiar with, is "The Parable of the Good Samaritan." The reason being is because every time I read this story, the Spirit illuminates the words in a new and different way. We all know who the star of the show is in this parable (hint: it's in the title) but I want to take a minute to reflect on the other guys that don't always look so great. When we really get down to it, I think we'll find that "the other guys" can be the more relatable characters.

Park View Alumnae celebrates 105th anniversary

Park View Hospital Nurses' Alumnae Association celebrated their 105th anniversary with a luncheon held at The Main Course at Belmont in Rocky Mount on Thursday, May 16. More than 50 individuals attended the event, including 31 Park View nurses.
Park View Hospital opened its doors as a 25-bed facility on July 1, 1914.

Winners announced in annual statewide DOT Safety Event

RALEIGH - Fourteen N.C. Department of Transportation employees have been recognized as the agency's best at operating heavy equipment and earned an opportunity to compete against their peers from across the Southeast.
The winners of the state's annual Equipment Operators Safety Training Conference and "Roadeo" held at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh on June 20 will travel to Mississippi in September in the regional event.

Nash Community College recognized eight officers for completing the College's 56th Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Academy on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
"Each of you have had an opportunity to experience a wealth of information and apply what you have learned in classroom practical situations during numerous scenario-based blocks," Rocky Mount Police Department Captain Michael Whitley, NCC alumnus, said in his keynote address.

Taking home Male Athlete of the Year was sophomore men's tennis player Roberto Puig while fellow women's tennis freshman Fariza Abdulloeva was chosen as Female Athlete of the Year.

Nash requests Hwy 264 to be scenic byway

Nash County Commissioners are hoping to add US 264 to the list of scenic byways in North Carolina.
Commissioners approved a resolution on June 17 to submit an application to include the 11 mile stretch of 264 that runs from Wake to Wilson County to the NC Scenic Byway Study List.

This past Sunday Peachtree Baptist Church congregation, family, and friends welcomed Rev. Wendy Edwards, as guest pastor. She was accompanied by her husband Ray. She filled in for Pastor Gene while he and Marta were on a mini vacation. Rev. Wendy is a dear friend of the Peachtree members.
The sanctuary flower arrangement Sunday was presented to glorify God by Barbara Privette in loving memory of her late husband, John Beverley Privette.
