NCC announces detention officer training graduates

Students from Edgecombe, Franklin, Nash and Wilson County Sheriff's Offices completed Detention Officer training at Nash Community College on Friday, March 11, 2022. The certification includes 177 hours of instruction designed to train qualified participants to function as officers in detention facilities. The course is governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs' and North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commissions.

ECC foundation official tapped for international award

Lynwood Roberson, executive director of the Edgecombe Community College Foundation, has been selected to receive an International Distinguished College Administrator Award from Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for students attending two-year schools.
Roberson is one of only 28 college administrators worldwide selected for the international distinction. He was nominated by Edgecombe's Alpha Omega Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Hadnott inked a letter-of-intent last week to join the NCWC cheer program as part of a ceremony at the NCHS Media Center.

BUENA VISTA, VA. -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team rolled to a series sweep of conference foe Southern Virginia University by ousting the hosts 7-0 in the first game last Saturday and then 12-5 in the second game.
Wesleyan improved to 10-8 on the season and 3-0 in the East Division. SVU fell to 3-6.

ZEBULON -- The Carolina Mudcats will black out the field with new alternate black game jerseys, and light up the night sky with post-game fireworks every Friday night at Five County Stadium this season.
The new "blackout" game jerseys are black in color with red numbers, "Carolina" scripted in red across the chest, and the Mudcats logo on the left sleeve.

LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg College softball team competed in a double header at home this past Saturday and defeated Surry Community College in both Region X contests at the Sheilah R. Cotten Field.
In game one, Louisburg won 10-3. Southern Nash alum Carrigan Ewers was the starting pitcher and went 4 innings, striking out 6.

GREENSBORO -- The Down East Association of Sports for Homeschoolers (DASH) Middle School boys basketball team finished off a perfect season on February 26 in Greensboro with the NCHEAC State Championship title.
DASH made it to the NCHEAC State Championship by winning the NCHEAC East Regional Championship in Raleigh the previous weekend.
