Carolina Mudcats get ready for the season

ZEBULON -- The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the initial roster for the Carolina Mudcats in advance of the 2023 season starting on April 7 when the Mudcats travel to Fayetteville to play the Woodpeckers.
The new roster features several returnees from the 2022 team including top-ranked Brewers prospects Jacob Misiorowski, Hedbert Pérez, Jadher Areinamo and Jace Avina.Misiorowski (Milwaukee's second round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft) and Perez (the Mudcats' 2022 home run leader) rank seventh and 20th respectively

Nash 911 staff fleeing to Wilson for higher pay

Nash County 911 is losing telecommunicators to neighboring Wilson County at an alarming rate.
Nine telecommunicators have left Nash to work for Wilson 911. Four additional staff members have left Nash to work in Brunswick, Franklin, and Durham counties, and Rocky Mount.
With its pay rate, Nash just can't compete with other counties, specifically Wilson, said Tony Cameron, the county's director of emergency services.

Post 110 honors wives, widows
Post 110 honors wives, widows

Spouses and widows of area veterans were recognized last Monday night during Post 110's annual Ladies Night dinner.
The event is hosted each year by Nashville's American Legion Post 110 to honor the wives and widows of legionnaires.
Jeremy Hetrick, Division One Commander for the American Legion, was the guest speaker for the night.

"Eggciting Saturday! is set for April 1st!

Nashville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources will host its annual "Eggciting Saturday!" on April 1 at Stoney Creek Environmental Park.
The event includes free egg hunts, interactive science stations, music, games, free hotdogs, Easter Bunny pictures and more.
Egg hunts for ages 0-12 begin promptly at 10 a.m. Participants should arrive early to not miss out.

Spring Hope set to vote on rezoning

The Spring Hope Board of Commissioners will again consider a rezoning request for a trucking business.
Kent Sessums is asking that his property be rezoned from single-family residential to light industrial for his proposed trucking yard on 10 acres on Wilkins Street.
A handful of residents attended a second planning board meeting on the request to voice concerns about the rezoning.

Three men charged with cockfighting
Three men charged with cockfighting

Dustin Collie, 38, Richard Perry, 63, and Bobby Kyle Eatmon, 40, face charges of cockfighting, a felony in North Carolina.
Collie, of Lake Royale Road, outside Spring Hope; Perry, of Old Nash Road in Middlesex; Eatmon, of Bruce Road in Sims; each posted $5,000 bonds.
At 9:45 a.m. March 25, deputies received an anonymous tip related to a possible cockfighting event in progress at 3593 Old Nash Road in Middlesex, said Maj. Eddie Moore with the Nash County Sheriff's Office.
