Last week was a rough week. The Shelter had to basically close to intakes of dogs which made people mad. They just asked people to wait. Thats all. The thing is, if you surrender your dog when the shelter's kennels are all full, it can be euthanized immediately. Or they will have to euthanize another probably adoptable dog to make room. PLEASE wait till they are less crowded. If it is a stray, they will have to keep for 3 business days waiting for an owner to reclaim.

Our five-year old grandson is so excited about learning how to fish. Recently, he came in the house with tears in his eyes. Easton went straight to his mamaw and got up in her lap. He said he wasn't going to go fishing again until he was 16. He told her that he got his hook stuck in the tree twice while trying to cast it into the lake.

A flight attendant told her pastor about the harrowing events of a recent flight. Severe weather required an emergency landing. She was responsible for preparing the cabin for a possible crash landing. The pastor asked how passengers reacted to these frightening events.
"From my vantage point," she answered, "It looked like they were making last-minute deals with God." What were you doing?" the pastor asked. She replied, "I was thanking God I did not have to make any last-minute deals with God."

Local students selected for $14,000 Golden Leaf Foundation scholarships

The Golden LEAF Foundation recently announced 215 rural North Carolina students who were selected to receive up to a $14,000 Golden LEAF Scholarship, including nine in Nash County.
High school seniors entering college as first year students are eligible for a $3,500 scholarship each year for up to four years of undergraduate study at a participating four-year North Carolina college or university.

Local youth compete at Cattle Show

Bridles and Halters 4-H Livestock Club and C-Squared Show Cattle traveled to Hillsborough on June 16th and 17th to compete in the Central Carolina District Junior Dairy Show and the Central Carolina Holstein Association Annual Black and White Show.
For the District Show Showmanship competition, Dawson Denton showed in the 7 and under Showmanship non-competitive class, Kolby Griffin and Mollie Griffin placed in the top 10 of the Junior Competition, and Shelby Griffin placed 4th in the intermediate class.

Five Nash County standouts have been saluted with prestigious spots on the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association's All-State Teams in their respective classifications.

Swim season resumes today in Nash County

NASH COUNTY -- The second half of the Nash-Halifax Swim League schedule will kick off today when Roanoke Valley travels to Nash Rec.
Action will begin at 5 p.m. at the NRST Pool in Nashville.
Roanoke Valley currently sits in first place in the league following its narrow victory over defending champion Westridge two weeks ago in Roanoke Rapids.

Nash to continue traffic enforcement
Nash to continue traffic enforcement

Nash County averages a traffic collision every two and a half hours; an injury every six and a half hours; and a fatality every two weeks, according to crash statistics Sheriff Keith Stone presented Monday to the Board of Commissioners.
Stone personally presented a request for funding to keep four patrol deputies dedicated to traffic enforcement. The positions are part of a grant managed by the N.C. Highway Safety Program.
