NC 581 bridge to be replaced

The N.C. Department of Transportation is replacing an aging bridge in Nash County near Southern Nash Middle School.
The bridge over the Tar River was built in 1949 and is now reaching the end of its useful lifespan, said NCDOT spokesperson Andrew Barksdale.
Due to the bridge's location on N.C. 581, the busy road won't be closed during replacement, Barksdale said.

Church to host meeting on proposed casino

Opposition appears to be growing to a proposed casino and entertainment district in Nash County.
State Senate leader Phil Berger and State House Speaker Tim Moore, both Republicans, are pushing the initiative, saying it will be good for local economies. They want to build casinos in four eastern North Carolina counties, including a site by the new Interstate 95 and Sunset Avenue exchange near Nash Community College.

Is tipping getting out of hand or justified?
Is tipping getting out of hand or justified?

I was out of town a couple of weekends ago and walked down the street with my wife to a coffee shop. We ordered and the cashier spun the tablet device around with my total and an opportunity for me to tip.
This brought to mind all the places that now ask for tips, that maybe didn't in the past. I guess I'm still trying to learn how things work. I figured that since I had a sugar free request that was a little more trouble, I should probably tip.

Sometimes well kept secrets can backfire

Since last week, I watched a segment on local TV station WHIG-TV featuring Roger Taylor who pretty much used the majority of his time to share all the positives of the casino project explaining there is so much more than just a casino.
He stated he had seen the "entire" plan which includes Tanger Outlets, a water park, entertainment center, hotels, restaurants in addition to the casino.

Back-to-School: What parents can do to be more involved

Parents can make every effort to encourage children to make the most of the school experience, including academics and extracurricular activities. Though students' level of engagement is ultimately up to them, parental involvement at school can be crucial for students' success.
According to the National Education Council, when parents get involved in their children's education, those children are more likely to do better in school and be more positive about the school experience.

Forgiveness can't be withheld if Christ lives in your heart

Has someone ever hurt you so deeply that you just can't forgive them? Maybe this devotion is just for you.
One of the most wonderful books in the Bible is the Philemon. Actually, Philemon hardly qualifies as a book. It only has 25 verses. It was a letter from the Paul to Philemon who was a wealthy friend that lived in Colosse.
