NASH RECYCLES DAY

Stephanie Collins, Keep America Beautiful Coordinator for Nash and Edgecombe Counties, poses with volunteers, including students from Northern Nash High School and Nash County Sheriff's Deputies, after the annual Nash Recycles Day, March 2, outside the Courthouse in Nashville. Red Oak plans town festivities

A new Fitness Festival is planned this October in the Town of Red Oak, in addition to the Family Freedom Celebration in June.
A Fitness Festival by BoxHause Fitness is scheduled Oct. 26, while the 5th annual Family Freedom Celebration will take place June 30.
Delwin Clark of BoxHause Fitness spoke at the Feb. 12 Red Oak Town Council meeting, at which he was directed to speak to county officials for a permit to use Ennis Park for the event.

(John 13:35) Psychology Today recently published an article debunking a book written in 1992 by Dr. Gary Chapman entitled "The Five Love Languages". The article discussed the findings of Emily Impett. Ms. Impett said the book's ideas are flawed. She felt applying those principles in your life doesn't help with relationships. In Dr. Chapman's book, he discusses 5 of the different ways we show our love.

Romans 8:31-39 is about the eternal security of the believer. No person can take away our salvation: "What then shall we say to these things. If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31) God the Father will not take away our salvation: "He who spared not his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:32) Satan cannot take away our salvation: "Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies" (Romans 8:33). The Lord Jesus Christ will not take away our salvation: "Who is to condemn?

American Red Cross seeks blood donations, volunteers

This spring, the American Red Cross asks donors to help defend the blood supply by giving blood or platelets now to combat a monstrous fact: only 3 out of 100 people donate blood. That's why Red Cross is teaming up with Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures to celebrate the epic new film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and inviting donors to rise together and give blood. Governor appoints Slaughter to serve Judicial District 8

Governor Roy Cooper recently announced three judicial appointments to North Carolina District Courts inluding Judicial District 8 which includes Nash County.
"These new judges have served North Carolina with distinction over the years and bring extensive legal experience to the bench," said Governor Cooper. "I am grateful for their willingness to continue to serve our state in these new roles."

Nashville begins budget talks

NASHVILLE - A marathon Nashville Town Council session March 19 lasting nearly six hours, including the annual budget retreat session, culminated in a discussion about returning to the town's prior arrangement of having a police chief over the police department and a fire chief over the fire department.
Fire Chief Chris Joyner assumed Interim headship over the Nashville Police Department after former Police Chief J.T. Winstead resigned at the end of October 2023. He was named Public Safety Director over both fire and police departments in January.

Local farmer faces citations, penalties from worker's death

SPRING HOPE - Barnes Farming of Spring Hope, the subject of a North Carolina Department of Labor (NCDOL) probe after the death of seasonal worker Jose Arturo Gonzalez Mendoza last September, has been issued three citations for safety violations and $187,509 in penalties but has issued a "notice of contest," according to DOL personnel.
Barnes Farming, or Farm Pak, which has addresses at 7840 and 7385 Old Bailey Highway, Spring Hope, is owned by John Barnes and his wife, Senator Lisa Barnes.

Nashville girl wins Youth of the Year award

ROCKY MOUNT - Nash Central High School Senior Princess Holmes of Nashville took top honors at the Booker T. Washington Theater in Rocky Mount March 14, as, for the second time in two years, she was selected as "Youth of the Year," the highest honor a Boys and Girls club member can receive.
Holmes, who has attended the Nashville Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region for six years, will go on to compete at the state level. She received a $1,000 check to be applied to college expenses at Appalachian State University, where she plans to begin career training to be a lawyer.

Castalia board member resigns

CASTALIA - The Town of Castalia is down a board member, as long-time Commissioner Brian Hinkle submitted a letter of resignation at the board's March meeting.
Hinkle, who was not in attendance at the March 5 meeting, submitted his letter to Mayor James Alston and said he was resigning from his post due to moving out of Castalia. Hinkle reportedly moved to Wake County.
Hinkle has served on the board since December 2013. His term was set to end in 2025.

Morris is keynote speaker for annual chamber award ceremony

Nashville's Chamber of Commerce 2024 Distinguished Citizen and Junior Achievement Award winner will be announced Thursday, March 28th during the chamber's annual reception held at Nash Arts. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.
This year's keynote speaker is Nashville native Vera Morris.
Morris is currently resides in Cary.

Spring Hope woman honors late father

ROCKY MOUNT - Twenty years have passed, but the love that a Spring Hope woman has for her late father is still strong, finding new expression in a flag-raising ceremony Saturday at the Veterans Memorial, Jack Laughery Park in Rocky Mount.
Joyce "Faye" Cline of W. Old Spring Hope Road, Spring Hope, accompanied by her husband, brother and several generations of family, attended the ceremony in honor of Cline's father, Muriel Warren Brown, TSgt. U.S. Air Force, who passed in April of 2000.

"Eggciting Saturday! is this weekend!

The Nashville Parks and Recreation Department will host its third annual Easter Egg Hunting event, "Eggciting Saturday", the morning of March 23 at the Stoney Creek Environmental Park, with activities to follow in the Town Council Chambers.
The event is free, but with 300 participating last year, families are encouraged to arrive early so that they can be in place before 10 a.m., said Koy Worrell, Parks and Rec Director.
