RALEIGH -- The 64th Annual Raleigh Hot Stove League Banquet will be held Jan. 28 at the McKimmon Center on the campus of North Carolina State University.
Cost is $35 per person, which includes dinner. Tickets for a table of eight are $350.
Action will begin with a silent auction at 5:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

Staton, who prepped at Nash Central High School, is a freshman and key member of the LC women’s basketball squad -- the defending National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Champions.

Local teams to appear at The Brittany

WILSON -- Six Nash County teams will be in action at the Brittany For The Girls 10 Soccer Showcase.
The prestigious event will be held April 4-5 at Gillette Park in Wilson.
On April 4, Northern Nash will tangle with Topsail at 5:30 p.m. on Field Five. At the same time, Faith Christian will meet Wayne Country Day on Field Six.

Wesleyan hosts conference opponents

ROCKY MOUNT -- Senior Josh Morrison averaged 24.5 points per game over two contests last weekend, leading his North Carolina Wesleyan College men’s basketball team to a USA South Conference split in Everett Gymnasium.
He began with a 25-point showing in Friday night’s dominating 86-63 win over Covenant, then ended with a solid 24-point outing in Saturday’s heartbreaking 72-69 loss to league-leading Maryville.

RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes split a pair of weekend National Hockey League home games  against teams from the Sunshine State. 
The “Canes downed the Florida Panthers 3-2 last Saturday as Alexander Semin led the way with two goals.
Riley Nash opened the scoring in the second period as he chipped a rebound past Panthers’ goalie Tim Thomas.

DURHAM -- The Durham Bulls, in conjunction with the athletic departments of the University of North Carolina and NC State University, have announced a one-time neutral site showdown between the two national baseball powers at the newly renovated Durham Bulls Athletic Park. \The “Duel at the DBAP” will be the lone regular season meeting between the Tar Heels and Wolfpack, taking place on April 15 at 7 p.m.

Doctors at Boice-Willis Clinic in Nashville are excited about their new office space on Eastpointe Avenue, behind the State Employees Credit Union.
The new facility opened on January 6 and Nashville’s Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday, January 17.
