RALEIGH -- The 64th Annual Raleigh Hot Stove League Banquet will be held Jan. 28 at the McKimmon Center on the campus of North Carolina State University.
Cost is $35 per person, which includes dinner. Tickets for a table of eight are $350.
Action will begin with a silent auction at 5:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

LOUISBURG -- It hasn’t taken long for Timyra Staton to make an impact at Louisburg College -- both on the court and in the classroom.
Staton, who prepped at Nash Central High School, is a freshman and key member of the LC women’s basketball squad -- the defending National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Champions.

WILSON -- Six Nash County teams will be in action at the Brittany For The Girls 10 Soccer Showcase.
The prestigious event will be held April 4-5 at Gillette Park in Wilson.
On April 4, Northern Nash will tangle with Topsail at 5:30 p.m. on Field Five. At the same time, Faith Christian will meet Wayne Country Day on Field Six.

NASH COUNTY -- Here are updated results from the Nash County Parks and Recreation Department’s 2014 Youth Basketball Season:

ROCKY MOUNT -- Senior Josh Morrison averaged 24.5 points per game over two contests last weekend, leading his North Carolina Wesleyan College men’s basketball team to a USA South Conference split in Everett Gymnasium.
He began with a 25-point showing in Friday night’s dominating 86-63 win over Covenant, then ended with a solid 24-point outing in Saturday’s heartbreaking 72-69 loss to league-leading Maryville.

RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes split a pair of weekend National Hockey League home games  against teams from the Sunshine State. 
The “Canes downed the Florida Panthers 3-2 last Saturday as Alexander Semin led the way with two goals.
Riley Nash opened the scoring in the second period as he chipped a rebound past Panthers’ goalie Tim Thomas.

DURHAM -- The Durham Bulls, in conjunction with the athletic departments of the University of North Carolina and NC State University, have announced a one-time neutral site showdown between the two national baseball powers at the newly renovated Durham Bulls Athletic Park. \The “Duel at the DBAP” will be the lone regular season meeting between the Tar Heels and Wolfpack, taking place on April 15 at 7 p.m.

By any estimation, Eric Wischhusen (left) is one of the greatest wrestlers in Southern Nash history -- and he is now succeeding as the head coach at Corinth Holders High School. Wischhusen hosted SN last Saturday at CHHS’ Jolly Roger Invitational.

Louisburg College freshman Timyra Staton is still in the process of getting back to 100 percent after suffering a serious knee injury during her senior season as a member of the Nash Central High School girls basketball squad.

Doctors at Boice-Willis Clinic in Nashville are excited about their new office space on Eastpointe Avenue, behind the State Employees Credit Union.
The new facility opened on January 6 and Nashville’s Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday, January 17.

North Carolina’s egg prices trended lower on all sizes when compared to last week. Supplies are moderate to meet a good demand. The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, Jan 09, 2014 for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade “A” eggs was 136.79 for Extra Large, 130.59 for Large, 119.64 for Medium, and 96.00 for Small eggs.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Despite their early-season success, one bugaboo continues to hinder the Nash Central High School girls basketball program.
Central, coached by Terri Cash, has lost just four games so far, but two of the setbacks have come against long-time nemesis Rocky Mount.

NASHVILLE - James “Jimmy” Earl Braddy, Sr., age 62, of Nashville, passed away on January 4, 2014.

NASHVILLE - Norma Ruth Lindsey, 75, passed away on January 11, 2014. She was born on November 6, 1938 in Pitt County to Charlie W. and Lillian Ruth Mills.

Ernest Junior Richardson, II, 36, of Nashville, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Whitakers.

Rocky Mount –– Eunice Sherae Green, 34, of Rocky Mount died on Monday, January 7, 2014.

NASHVILLE –– Emma Pearl Cooper, age 81, of Nashville passed away Friday, January 3, 2014.

Robert R. “Bobby” Chadwick, 81, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014. He was born on November 4, 1932 in Stonewall, NC to the late Manley Lewis and Alice Carter Chadwick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Edward Ray (Eddie Buck) Davis, age 83, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Born in Rocky Mount, he was the son of the late Van Jefferson Davis and Iva Bell Pridgen Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rena Bell Davis and several siblings.
