Ruby Leigh Joyner Winstead died on November 28, 2010, at the age of 90.

Born in Nash County on May 10, 1920, she was the oldest daughter of the late Charlie Woodard Joyner and Mattie Mae Daniel Joyner Davis and Aaron Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell Dempsey Winstead, who died in 1981 after sharing 34 years of wedded bliss. Her brother, Nils Woodard Joyner, and son-in-law, Earnie Lee Strickland, Jr. also preceded her in death.

Surviving children include a daughter, Ann Winstead Strickland and a son, Charles Russell Winstead and wife Debbie Batts Winstead, one sister, Iris Joyner, all from Rocky Mount and two grandsons.

Visitation with the family will be 10:30 am – 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel with the Rev. Mary Todd officiating. A graveside service will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or donations can be made in her memory to Morton Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6605 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
