ROCKY MOUNT - Otho Bunn Smith, 89, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006. He was born in Nash County, January 28, 1917 son of the late William Albert Smith and Susan Eason Smith.

Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the US Army serving in World War II.

His wife Margaret Strickland Smith preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Susan Ann Pierce of Rocky Mount, Barbara Powell and husband Julian of Nashville; sons Otho Gray Smith and wife Connie of Centerville, Jack Douglas Smith and wife Marilyn of Nashville, Marvin Lee Smith and wife Jackie of Whitakers; brothers Pete Smith of Tarboro, Albert Smith of Virginia, Hardy Smith of Texas, J.T. Smith of Tarboro; sisters Rachel Crowdus of Florida and Earline Dew of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 1912 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC. A gathering to celebrate his life was held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2006 at the funeral home with Dr. Bill Wakefield of Rock Creek Baptist officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
