Raymond Henry Edwards of Rocky Mount died on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in Durham, NC at the Community Living Center  at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  He was born in Whitakers on May 14, 1920 to the union of Joe and Tillie Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents and “Granny” his grandmother, his wife of 67 years, Mabel Flora Edwards and by his son-in-law, Phillip Lee Yarboro. All of his brothers and sisters preceded him in death. They were Rosa and husband Robert Long, Purvis and wife Mamie Edwards, Wesley and wife Elma Edwards, Sadie and husband Leslie Conyers, Dorothy and husband Owen Fountain, Margaret and husband Charles Henderson, Coefield and wife Gladys Edwards.

He is survived by his only daughter, Agnes Edwards Yarboro; two brothers-law and two sisters-in-law: Earl Flora (Madeline) of Rocky Mount, Cecil Flora (Carolyn) of Elm City, Betty Lou Flora of Rocky Mount, and Elsie Turner Dunn of Rocky Mount.

Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center at 508 Fulton Street in Durham, NC 27705 or to your favorite charity.

The family received friends on Wednesday night, July 14, 2010 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Johnsons Funerals and Cremations. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, with Rev. Tony Bossolona officiating. Interment followed at Pineview Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funerals & Cremations, 661 English Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
