VIOLET EDITH THOMPSON RAYNOR


Mrs. Violet Edith Thompson Raynor, age 87, of Rocky Mount passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010.

Born on November 18, 1922 in Surry County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Etta Stonestreet Thompson. She was married to the late Herbert L. Raynor, who died in 1983.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianna R. Short and her husband, Johnny, of Grifton, and Joette R. Williams and her husband, Wayne, of Rocky Mount; two sons, Bill Raynor and his wife, B.J., of Nashville, and Larry Raynor and his wife, Cindi, of Wilmington; two sisters, Helen Jackson of Raleigh, and Frances Merkel and her husband, Gordon, of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Herbert David Raynor; a grandson, Timothy W. Short, and two brothers, Joseph A. Thompson and Billy Jack Thompson.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 22, 2010 in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home. Rev. Andrew Raynor and Rev. David L. Proctor, Sr. officiated. Burial was  at Pineview Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
