Evelyn Gay Johnson, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010. She was born July 5, 1923 in Edgecombe County, daughter of the late Sallie Harper Gay and Jesse Gay.  She was preceded in death by a brother, James Gay.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Charles M. Johnson of 69 years.  She is also survived by two daughters, Jean Griffin and husband Ray and Trudy Collier and husband Jerry; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 7-8:30 pm Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.  A funeral service to remember Evelyn will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Benson and Dr. Michael Clark officiating.  Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.
