Wiley Thurman Cockrell, Sr. 79, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010. He was born in Edgecombe County, July 6, 1930 to the late Wiley Oscar Cockrell and Etta Carpenter Cockrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Strange Cockrell.

He is survived by his children, Wiley T. Cockrell, Jr. and wife, Renee; Craig Cockrell and wife, Elizabeth; Angie C. Harris and husband, Pete; David Cockrell; Jason Cockrell and wife, Susan; Christie C. Sokalski and husband, Peter all of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Edwards of Cleveland, OH, Odell Hinton of Middlesex and a brother, Oscar Cockrell of Rocky Mount.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2010 at Church on the Rise with Rev. Richard Gurganus and Rev. David Whitley officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home.
